Just recentley posted a question about my mossberg 500, and received a great deal of help. I have a brand new remington 870 as well, and it locked up on me a few times with various brands/grades of ammo. Its on its way back to remington right now to see what the deal is. The photo i have included shows the barrel extension. Is this a normal wear pattern on the extension?
it has about 300 rounds through it

It's hard to be sure from a photo, but it looks as if there are two dings on the front edges of the cut-out where the lug locks up, and that could definitely hamper the action.

Looks OK to me...

My 870 has a lot more rounds through it and does not have the dings or the rub marks that your barrel shows. How ever the back of the lock up area is what sets the head space and it looks solid. If the gun is back at Remington they should check to see what is making the rub marks and what made the two dimples at the front of the locking area.

were you shooting reloads or something italian through it? fiocci or some such? they wore a similar pattern on one of mine. the brass edge was flared and over a few hundred rounds was cutting.

just federal bulk, some heavy remington loads, and i even think i shot some winchester bulk as well. I hope remington finds a problem and fixes it. I owned an older 870 and it didnt have any of the marks this one does.

Looks to me like the barrel was forced into action with bolt forward in locked position or nearly closed. The divots in lock recess would definetly lock the gun up if bolt locks up past divots but doesn't have enough mechanical advantage to pull bolt out past those divots.

So what should i be expecting remington to tell me? Is this something they can fix, or do i need a new barrel? How long of a turnaround time does something like this take?
