Sling options for pistol grip.

So, I got my barrel today. Went out and shot about 100 rounds, birdshot and buck, through my m500 PGO and I can honestly say this is the best PGO I've shot or owned. I hit clays 85-90 pct from 15-20 yards with Sellier Bellot 00 buck - good enough for it's intended purpose I'd say. Rapid fire was nothing. Another thing I can impart to you, FWIW, is to avoid the Mossberg cruiser grip set like the plague. This is night and day better than the beating that thing gave my hands and wrists even with birdshot. Others agreed. The Hogue Tamer pg and forend are a quality product, no ifs ands or buts about it. IF, and this is a big IF, you are experienced with and desire a pgo, I'd check it out, along with the Speedfeed pg stuff. Again, this gun is still by no means my primary.

Now I do want to mount a very simple 2 point sling setup for field carry. I'm wondering if I'd be alright drilling directly into the base of the rubber/synthetic PG? I want a sling stud directly on the bottom. I don't think drilling the side would work, I feel like I'd hit the stock bolt on this particular product. I'm also going to contact Hogue for input. They probably will tell me not to, which won't deter me unless somehow it'll mess with the "recoil pocket" or someone here thinks it's a bad idea. Usually companies don't want you to void the warranty but I'll take what they say into consideration. And in case your wondering, this PG does NOT have a sling mount. The 870 one does but not the 500 one, I guess.

What do you guys think about key rings as sling swivels? It seems to give me a better ROM than the standard ones, and much cheaper. This gun is just a bruiser anyway and I kind of like that makeshift look on this.

Have you looked at the sling mounts that go between the stock and the receiver? Or, are you set on using sling studs?

I have the Mossberg 500 PGO and with the swivel mounted sling between the mag nut and the receiver. The sling and metal swivel clips were less than $25 at Gander Mountain.

Why would one wish to sling a PGO shotgun? I mean, I have slings on my waterfowl guns to haul them with my deeks and seat to my hunting spot, but on a home defense shotgun? What possible purpose does a sing have on a PGO shotgun? Perhaps it would serve in gun retention of you were fighting over the gun? I could see that, maybe.

There are ways to sling 'em, though, just check out the uncle mike's sling swivel studs on any website that sells 'em for the options. For carry, I'd think on top of the gun would be more convenient. I mean, ain't like you're pointing the gun down the barrel or have sights on it or something. Slinging from the top would keep it from hanging upside down.

mostly just to put over my back on a hike or something. Mostly just to have it. It probably wont stay on 24/7...

could the stock mount sling points work? such as the g g and g?

If you hang it off your off shoulder muzzle down, it can come to point very quickly just by pulling it up with the off hand. That's how I often carry my hunting rifle while still hunting in the field. A long enough sling and you could slide it over your head, so yeah, I reckon the stock sling swivel positions under the gun could work. I wasn't thinkin' about that before. In the field, I'd much prefer a stock. I wish I had a pic of what I was talkin' about, sorta hard to describe properly.

Actually, I hate PG stocks on shotguns, especially Mossbergs where you can't even get to the safety easily with your hand on the grip. If I wanted compactness, I'd put a folder on it, at least. But, in the field, I don't see the need for such compactness and I do see the need for accuracy at long range on birds or running rabbits or even deer/hogs if I used a shotgun for that. If you can hit a flushing quail at 25 with a PGO shotgun, great, but I can't. I have, however, used my .410 contender on clays and birds, though. :D That can be done since I can sight the thing properly as a handgun. Since that gun can also shoot .45 Colt fairly accurately, makes a decent survival gun for back packing IMHO. I've never used it for that, though.
