so first off, this gun is trashed. barrel is pitted, has a 40 year old botched sporterization job, rust, neglect, crud, etc.
now, beyond "it's a crappy mauser" any help on what it is? spanish? large ring vs small ring? is has no value other than sentiment. It's my grandfather's old gun and my dad wants it shootable and not too crappy looking. It really needs duracoat and a synthetic stock, but it will probably end up with sand paper and krylon. I wouldn't give 50 bucks for it.

Looks like the Spanish Guardia Civil crest, what is left of it.
Action is a large ring, Spanish version of a '98.

close enough for me. thanks!
"what is left of it" perfectly describes the gun.

there are an number of sections where you can find various codes which you can find on mausers receivers or other parts.this library is so much complete as many information i collect. You find here numeric codes like, letter codes like.

The crest is shown in "Mauser Military Rifles of the World" 3rd Edition page 303 as a Spanish "Falangist" but the other spec's on this rifle, Large ring, pistol grip, grasping grooves are all 1943 Mauser Spanish specs. Receiver side markings and proofs also agree page 305 same manual.
