Argentine, South African, California Clips, USA? I'm getting an Arcus 94, they take BHP mags, and I'm ordering(mags) from CDNN. The California Clips and USA are 30 rounders and will be for plinking fun so I'm not as worried about quality as I am with the flush/near flush fit mags. I think that covers it. Thanks for the help.

South African KRDs seem to work pretty well. Factory and Mec-Gar are the best if you can get them.

STAY AWAY FROM USA MAGS!:what:

KRDs work fine in my FNHP.

I consider KRDs 98% reliable with 16 rounds loaded and will carry one as a spare. 17 rounds loaded is asking for a nosedive failure in my experience. I also individually test them. For 100% mags, I only believe in original factory 13rd mags.

As for fun, like you I couldn't resist and bought two USA 30s. Here's what I found out, the mag body uses a Beretta profile feeed lip, as in they took a Beretta mag and stuck a HP follower in it and cut the mag notch in the right place. Some guns will function like this, but I extensively modified mine. I now have a 100% 31 round mag. PM me for details if you ever get one.

Avoid USA mags like the plague. USA mags are junk, don't waste your money or risk your life.

Stick with factory HP or KRD mags and you'll be happy.

Go look around at www.fnhipower.com and find the page of one of the members who has done an extensive write-up on BHP mags. I'm too lazy to find it right now or I'd just give you the link...:)

Yes, there is a very good Mag FAQ,
http://www.ont.com/users/kolya/bhpmagfaq.htm
I trust real Browning 13 rounders. I do have KRD17's for range use, but found them to be temperamental. They tend to get jammed sometimes, even though I've taken them apart to look for burrs. The KRD's do not drop free from my BHP, seems the KRD outer dimension tolerances (or lack of QC) may be a bit much. I have one 30 rndr that I do not use, it's a piece of junky thin sheet metal (glad I did not purchase it myself).

NEtracker- I know what you mean about the KRDs getting jammed. I bought a few once and found that half of them were pretty bad in that respect. I sent all but one back to CDNN (good people to deal with) and they replaced them immediately.

Back to the point though.
I did keep one that was so-so to see if I could make it work right.
I took it apart and polished the inside of the mag body and all the edges of the follower. I polished the feed lips.
I also bent the sheet metal follower until it fit the inside of the mag body a little more snug.
It worked great after that.
I could load it to the max and the rounds practically jumped out when I stripped them off by hand.
I no longer have a Hi-Power, but I thought that may prove useful to you anyway.;)

The 17-round KRDs from CDNN all worked and so did the stainless 13-rounders from Numrich.

I have 3 KRD 17-rounders, and all work flawlessly no matter how many rounds are in them.

There are a lot of differing opinions about them, but you really should try them for yourself. I'm really happy with mine.

goon,
Thanks for the tips.
I'll take 'em apart and have another go at it.

Browning and MecGar (which makes Brownings) are reputedly the best.

I have a few of the KRD 17 rounders - three are OK, but in one the cartridges nosedive and get jumbled internally. (This is a failure mode I haven't seen before.)

I have a couple of Pachmayr 13-round mags - they seem well made and have been 100% reliable.

I also have some cheap ProMag 13 round mags. My first test of them was in a class during which I used them exclusively for well over 1000 rounds. Function was - and continues to be - flawless. Zero malfunctions.

I have 3 KRD 17 rounders. All work flawlessly with a variety of ammo. They would not drop free until I removed the magazine safety.

KRD 15 round mags work well too - very smooth & reliable.

Mec's are the best. KRD17's also work well.....when loaded with 15 rounds. I never put more than that in them.

Mec-Gar, FN, Pro-Mag, FEG and USA all work fine for me.

KRD's never have worked right for me.

Best + capacity mag I ever bought was made by ram-line. Holds 15 and is flush-fit.
