I'd like to find training in close range carbine use and also in medium range marksmanship (300-400m distances). Which trainers would you suggest?

"Herrrre's a clue for you." Doesn't Louis Awerbuck still make it to Clarksville every year? Isn't Clarksville just down I-65 from the `ville?
Or, if you want to come up I-65, he sets up shoppe for a couple of months in Lebanon, Indiana, August and September.

Aside from checking Louis' page for local classes www.yfainc.com you have a real good local source.
Look at www.prifirearmstraining.com
I have both taken classes with Ron Fielder and taught with him. He is an excellant instructor, very knowledgable and a real good guy.

(add-on: My bad for not mentionining Randy, but I can't remember how much he actually teaches where he based out of)

Oleg,
If you've got access to a range, you might look at hosting a course. Probably get free slots for you
and Betty. That's usually the deal, one or two free seats in exchange for organizing it.
Jim Crews (http://www.marksmans.com), Randy Cain, Wes Doss (http://www.khybertraining.com) all travel. Usually ten paying students is what you need. Let me know, I'd drive down for any of them.

another nod for PRI.. and YES! Ron Fielder is still teaching at Gunsite also (he just did a month out there at the end of 2002)
John Brown (the other primary PRI guy) is also a VERY pro 2nd attorney in the Nashville area, and is one of the primary police attornies in the area.
great guys, nice facility, reasonable prices, and EXCELLENT instruction...

We have some good high power matches at St. Louis Benchrest, for all you folks who insist on crawling around on the ground and all that...

I've heard some very good stuff about PRI, but haven't trained with them yet. Randy Cain and Loius Awerbuck are well-known and respected trainers. Of course, {SHAMELESS PLUG} Yeager and Aultman run the TN- OPS branch and would be quite happy to run a Tac Rifle class in Nashvile.:)

Hell, if you're going to call in Jim Crews or something then count me in. It'll be a drive, but I could make it a 3-day weekend. ;)
Anyone care to buy some Frontsight certificates I got last Xmas? :D

That PRI Firearms Training looks pretty good. I may take the defensive shotgun course over there this summer.

Options for Personal security is holding a precision rifle class May 17-18, 2003 in Huntington, TN. It covers skills out to 300 yards. A couple of friends of mine who have taken the class thought it was excellent. Myself and a friend of mine plan on attending.
Allen Web is the contact person webbad@aeneas.net I understand the class will be limited to 10 students and John Scarborough is the lead instructor. 5:1 or less is a pretty good instructor/student ratio. Anyway, it is supposed to be a great class and I am looking forward to it.

Below is an email conversation Allen and I had regarding the class, it may be helpful for you.
Allen,
I saw your post for the Precision Rifle 1 class (see below). Please sign me up for the May 17-18 Huntinton date. That date will be perfect. A couple of questions:
Where is "Huntington"? HUNTINGDON IS BETWEEN CAMDEN AND JACKSON. WE TRY TO HAVE EVERYONE STAY IN CAMDEN OR MEET IN CAMDEN ON THE FIRST MORNING. THAT IS WHERE THE LECTURE WILL BE. THEN WE WILL MOVE TO THE RANGE IN HUNTINGDON.
My plans are to bring my Savage .223 bolt gun with a 4x112 AO Leupold. I will shoot federal match. Will this type and caliber of setup work for your class type? THAT SOUNDS FINE. I DO NOT SEE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THAT SET UP. DOES THE SCOPE HAVE TARGET KNOBS. IF IT DOES NOT, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU LOOK AT THE STONEY POINT TARGET KNOBS. ALSO, DO YOU HAVE A BIPOD ON IT OR DO YOU PLAN TO USE A BAG?
I assume I need a data book. Do you have a recommendation of type and where it can be purchased? GO TO WWW.USTACTICALSUPPLY.COM AND LOOK UNDER SNIPER DATA BOOK AND COVERS. THIS IS THE BOOK JOHN AND I ARE USING. IT HAS LOTS OF REFERENCE PAGES AND SEVERAL DIFFERENT DATA FORMATS. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE AND USE SOME TYPE OF DATA BOOK THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. THERE ARE SEVERAL DOWNLOADS AVAILABLE ON DIFFERENT WEBSITES FOR DATA PAGES IF YOU WNAT TO BUILD YOUR OWN BOOK.
Do you have an additional suggested equipment list? I HAVE ATTACHED THE GEAR LIST
What suggestions do you have for how I might prepare myself and equipment so that I can get the most from your class and instruction? Thanks. AS I SAID ON THE PHONE, COME WITH A GOOD 100 YARD ZERO. IF YOU HAVE THAT, THE REST WILL BE A BREEZE. I ALWAYS RECOMMEND A CAMEL BACK AS IT WILL BE A LONG DAY ONCE WE GET TO THE RANGE. I WOULD ALSO SUGGEST THAT YOU GO TO WWW.BALLISTICARDS.COM AND ORDER THE APPRORIATE CARDS FOR YOUR GUN. THESE ARE A GOOD QUICK REFERENCE TO GET YOU CLOSE ON THE TARGET.
