Summer / Warm Weather Carry

I have been looking through to threads and I really can't find anything on this topic.....
I am new to CCW. I am fine with winter early spring or fall carry. But, summer is on the horizon and I want to have my plan in place before it gets hot. ( I am being optomistic!) I am about 5' 11" 215lbs. I carry a Walter P99. I would like to get a 1911 at some point.
How do you conceal carry in the summer, when it is 95 to 100 degrees and it is so humid it is almost raining? Missouri gets that way! (So do a lot of southern states. Wearing shorts, etc.? Has anyone had used Smart Carry?
Thanks!

I would imagine most of us have a whole different gun for summer carry. As we have a pretty short winter here (not this year) I usually carry a Walther PPS 9mm IWB. During the winter I have been carrying my Glock 34 (about same size as a 1911 except blockier) as it's no problem concealing it with a big jacket.

I have used the Smart Carry Holsters for DEEP concealment, and they work pretty well. I find they work best with something fairly compact and/or thin. Yes, you CAN conceal a large double stack (I've done it with a High Power), but something along the lines of a J frame, or a smallish single stack work MUCH better IMO.

Personaly, I carry the same thing Summer or Winter. Either a Colt Python or a 5" 1911 in a Simply Rugged holster IWB. An untucked T shirt is all that's need for cover.

If not those, then a Colt Cobra, or 1903 in a front pocket or in the Smart Carry holster depending on the situation

Iam2taz...Also in Missouri. In the summer I carry a Kimber UCC II 3" 1911 in an IWB at 4:00. I wear a t-shirt with a sport (western) shirt over that untucked and unbuttoned (have to watch the wind).

I'm 5' 7" and 135 lbs. Have not been made in three years of having a CCW.

You might consider a wal-mart special fanny pack. You will look like a tourist.

I last CC'ed in Phoenix, AZ, where it gets, if not especially humid, very hot. I had no particular difficulty with carrying IWB under an untucked shirt, with an undershirt to keep the gun butt and holster from direct skin contact. While I got by with a standard cotton T-shirt, I would recommend one made from a moisture-wicking material.

I carry IWB at 1'o clock with an untucked shirt. I always wear an undershirt or tanktop. I think 2 layers of lose fitting cotton help prevent printing better than just 1.

Order a Milt-Sparks VM2 now so you have a nice holster comes summer.

An untucked shirt is your friend if you can get away with it.

Wipe the gun down every evening to keep the rust bunnies away.

I carry IWB with an untucked button up shirt (and some longer t-shirts) with no printing issues. My IWB holsters have a sweat shield so it normally don't have to worry about moisture on my 1911.

Houston gets very miserable in the summer, and I carry a Glock 19 OWB year-round.

I've built up a collection of button-up shirts that are long enough to conceal well. Buying a size larger than you usually wear can also help with concealment.

This summer, I'll be carrying my Kel-Tec PF-9 in a Concealment Concepts Pocket Pal holster:

Either a Tommys' Gun Pak (hey, everybody else is running around with a waist pack) or just use the same K-holster I use the rest of the year.

When traveling in the summer, I usually carry a Lightweight Commander, in a Milt Sparks Summer Special, with a T-shirt tucked in and a long square tailed shirt left un buttoned while in the car, but I usually button 2 or three buttons when I get out of the car. This has worked pretty good for me, but IWB carry is not the most confortable, however with the lightweight commander it's about a good as it gets for a gun with decent power.

My Springfield Lightweight Milspec 4 inch gun, with it's tiny absolutely no snag sights, works very well for me, without a holster at all, just stuck inside my wasteband, so sometimes that is all I carry, when I just don't want to fool with any holster at all. It's about the only gun I will do that with.

However, I have since put a new Kimber Tatical Ultra II, (3 inch micro 1911) on layaway, and I hope I can carry it in OWB holster that will still carry high enough that I don't have to worry about flashing with a longtailed shirt. I think it will be more confrotable then IWB carry.

I conceal a full size pistol during the summer just like I conceal a full size pistol during the winter.

The main difference is I usually can't get away with using an OWB holster during the summer. So I wear an IWB holster instead most of the time.

You may want to consider appendix IWB.
