It is a Smith & Wesson 1905 Hand Ejector/4th Change (Military & Police).
(thanks Old Fuff)
I took it out and fired some 148 grain lead and was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy. The trigger pull is fantastic. Double action is very heavy but smooth.
I was told when I bought the gun it was unfired. I buy guns to shoot and collect so it doesn't bother me in the least bit that I took it to the range
and tried it out.

The “Old Fuff” is appropriately impressed ….. Nice revolver you have they’re.
The reason the double action is so heavy is because the main and trigger springs were made sufficiently strong to insure the piece would fire no matter what kind of environment it was in. You can substitute springs from a Wolff spring kit to obtain an easier action if you don’t plan to carry the piece as a serious weapon. And of course you can always put the original springs back into the gun.

Your sharp picture has paid off again. Down under and forward of the cylinder are broad arrow ^ marks that indicate government owership, and the letter "L" which stands for the Lithgow Arms Factory in Australia. They are the ones that overhalled it. The "26" is an inspection sample code. Obviously they did a good job.
