Brand new to THR and to reloading. Actually just ordered my reloading equ. It will be here tomarrow ;) loading .17 rem, 223. and 25-06 rem

I have done some shotshell reloading and always when exacly by the book on loads.

With rifle primers so hard to come by I was wandering when it is ok to change primers? I know to start all loads 10% below max. I plan to use rem Primers thats what i could find that matched load info for hodgdon powder in there "magizine mannual" for .17 rem and 25-06 rem.

I will go by the book at first but later might want to change it up some expecially with the primer shortage might have to take what I can get!

Thanks

i called up hodgons on this for .270 winchester last week. The guy on the phone said that is is fine to interchange primers, just make sure you use starting loads and know that the max loads will most likely be different, so be careful when working your way up. For reloading .223 i have always used cci primers, since ive been told they have stronger cups for my ar15. I really have never ventured far from suggested starting loads yet, so i havent ran into any signs of over pressure ever. If i were you, I would call up a powder company such as hodgons and have one of their tech's tell you to give you that peice of mind.

If you stay off the 'max' on your reloads, the brand name on the primer should not make a noticeable difference for most all shooters.

1000 yard tack drivers excluded - lol

For my pistol reloads I can't tell the difference in shooting Wolf, CCI, Remington or Winchester SP and LP primers. They have all gone bang quite well.
