So, I want to buy my 17 year old nephew a 1860 army .44 for Christmas.

What are the laws in his state of North Carolina to own it, carry it,
and use it?
Where in his state [ Greensboro ] can he get black powder?
Is there anything else I or he needs to know?

Thanks, every thing is most appreciated.

Did John Wesley Hardin say it was alright for you to buy that thing? (!!)....

No, but I am sure that he would have.

I don't know if your nephew needs to be 18 or not. But other than that there's no reason that.I can think of to keep him from owning a black powder revolver.

I live about 20 miles from Greensboro and haven't found anyone who sells the real stuff, but he won't have any problem finding substitutes. Gander Mountian in Greensboro sells it.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The Goex website lists this distributor in North Carolina:

Parks and Son, Inc.
234 Bingham & Parks Road
Advance, NC 27006-9415
336-998-8182, Fax: 336-998-2696

If you're too far away then contact them and maybe they can refer you to some local businesses that are stocking dealers that buy from them. :)

Bass Pro carries real BP. I suspect Gander Mountain might also. They cannot keep it on the shelf but have it locked up in back due to federal regs. Ask. All they can say is no they don't.
