Hey guys I want a standard synthetic or otherwise pump shotgun either 870 or 500 with 18.5 inch barrel and extended mag tube(not that big a deal i can always mod it myself).

My question is how much should I pay for one of these? I want new or used, preferably used if it makes no difference. I see they run new at retail store for about 350, same at a gun show. Some gun stores however sale them at 450. Should I shop around at pawn shops or will that make a difference?

How much should I be paying for one of these and where is the best place to find a good used shotgun? I don't want to buy one new for 350 and find out it was waaaayyyyyy over priced, but then again I'm new to owning firearms and have had the impression that the prices have gone up tremendously the past few years.

You should be able to find a basic 870 express model for about $350, you can then accessorize it with a magazine extension for about $40 dollars and do as much modifying to it as you want. Beware that the more things you add the heavier it's going to be.
