tackstrp December 24, 2009, 10:00 AM Yesterday i picked up a 45 auto fired shell that was so clean insice the shell casing that it appeared unfired except for the prime. The fellow had a box of WW clean ammo .. He purchased at Walmart.
Does anyone know a gumpower that can be purchased that has such clean properties?

Walkalong December 24, 2009, 11:08 AM I believe the Win Clean primer has as much to do with it as whatever powder they use. I have tried to replicate that cleanliness with numerous canister powders available to the hand loader, and can not do as well.
RandyP December 24, 2009, 11:16 AM Start with the PMC heavy-metal free non-toxic primer?
I dunno, just guessin'.
Ohio Gun Guy December 24, 2009, 11:43 AM I shot a box (50) of Winchester White Box through my 9mm and it was barely dirty. I was supprised.
Bula December 24, 2009, 12:05 PM The Vhitavouri (sp?) line of powders are super clean burning. I don't use them but I know a very experienced loader who uses it in .357 mag and .44 mag (n110 I think) and his brass is still SHINEY inside after he shoots.
Walkalong December 24, 2009, 12:06 PM Yep, while pricier, the Vihtavuori powders are as clean as it gets.
Shoney December 24, 2009, 12:54 PM Almost all powders available in the US ar cellulose based powders, which burn leaving the impurities as various cabon residues. VV powders are cotton based powders which burn cleanly because there are few impurities.
To those that say ,"Have a Holly Jolly Rama-Hana-Chris-Quan politically correct time of year." I say Bahhhh! HUMBUG!!!! Merry Christmas!
Sunray December 25, 2009, 08:38 PM "...Win Clean primer has as much to do with..." The primer is what makes 'em 'Clean'. Non-toxic.
Uncle Chan December 25, 2009, 10:05 PM You'll laugh at me, but I replicate this all of the time for my CAS loads. I put 3.7gr of Clays in a 45LC shell, fill up to bullet height with white hominy grits, then seat and crimp a 200 gr RNFP pill on top. This produces a case that is as clean coming out as going in. It is cool to the touch. Keeps my Vaquero lubed. I don't need to clean it. And I don't need to polish the case.
Roccobro December 25, 2009, 10:07 PM I've noticed that range Blaser brass is so clean on the inside it looks unfired! I've wondered what powder they use in their brass line of target ammo.

lost river rat December 25, 2009, 10:19 PM V V powders are nitro cellulose based same as all smokelss powders. nitro cellulose is also called nitro cotton, gun cotton and others. This causes some confusion and even clever marketing.
Gun powder is white. The amount of DNT, nitroglycerin and other chemicals added makes it yellow to grean. Older powders had a heavy coating of graphite on them to make them flow and not ignite with static. Newer powders don't look as shiney and black because of less coatings. This leave less residue.
Try the ultra clean shot gun powders like Clays for cleaner 45s. The dirtiest have always been the older ball powders. Most of the powder loaded by major manufacturers are non-canister. We cannot buy them. If there is a new ultra clean powder, it will likely make the canister line in a few years.

Doesn't this leave the floor in front of the shooting line covered in popcorn ??? :D
Try Vhitavuori N320 in your 45.
