Alex finally shot an edible rabbit. He ate the whole thing in one sitting with a smile on his face. Oh to be 13 again!

nothing like eating like a king with a rabbit on the menu. Wait until he shoots his first deer. Congrats to the young man with a fine harvest.

Boy this brings back some memories. Don't remember my very "first" rabbit but do remember going out with my 2 brothers hunting on our farm for supper many many times after our chores were finished. For a family of 5 we would have to shoot at least 7or8 cotton tails. The oldest brother (14), at that time, would do all the shooting and Mike and I would have to do the carrying. I "do" remember after carrying 4or5 rabbits around for 3-4 hours they would weight about a ton. ( I and brother Mike are a year and a half apart, my oldest brother is 8 years older than me.) That's why he did all the shooting, and he had a single barrel 20 ga. H&R. Thoes were the good ol days.

Congratulations Alex! I took my first at about 10 years old using an old single barrel 12 guage with full choked 30" barrel.

Great job Alex...and with a 22LR no doubt!

Wasn't life grand when bagging a rabbit was the pinnacle of your existence!?!

A nylon 66? COOL! Kid has class! :D

I still remember my first rabbit, big swamp rabbit. Shot him 3 times with my Benjamin .22 pellet rifle in the head before he stopped kickin'. If I'd just shot him in the body, it'd penetrated and killed him quicker, but I was 8 years old, didn't know.

I walked right up on that rabbit and he didn't run. Thinkin' back on it, I bet the thing had tularemia, but grandpa skinned him, mom cooked him. Grandpa lived another 20 years, so I guess all was good. LOL But, the way that rabbit just sat there in the open as I walked up to within 20 yards of him is suspicious. I didn't know about tularemia at age 9, though.

Excellent. You're doing a good job teaching the next generation of hunters. If we don't, who will?

That bunny looks HUGE. Is it a cottontail?

Cool Nylon 66. What a fine rifle. Those things are becoming collector's items. That's one lucky kid.

Love the "deluxe" sling - looks like it came off a hay bale. ;)

Thank you for this post. It brings back memories of when my son got his first squirrel around the age of 10. He came home and was grinning from ear to ear, I instructed him on how to skin and prepare his game. So out comes his razor sharp knife, he was holding the squirrel down with his left hand close to the right paw when he cut apparently he hit a nerve because the paw wrapped around his finger. Long story short the squirrel went one way the knife went another and my son must have jump two feet off the ground. I still grin when I think of it.
