Hi, I#ve read about malaysian & rodesian loads in this forum, but I dont understand the thought behind this kind of stuff. what is the inventors idea? after my logic this would be just a buckshotload with reduced effectifness due toto the lesser buck-pellet count & and the fact that birdshot doesnt seem THAT useful, but maybe I miss some facts?

Depends what you're trying to shoot. Presumably, in these places, a stroll through the wilderness could put you face-to-face with all sorts of wild animals of all sorts of sizes.

Also, note that buckshot is sometimes "buffered" with inert beads of plastic. Having no plastic, they did the same with birdshot.:)

How good were these loads? They're not common any more, so one has to assume that they weren't the best choice for too many applications.

The Malayan loads were meant to cause infection from minor wounds. If the buck didn't kill the insurgent, the 6 shot made more holes. In the jungle, that was often fatal, though not immediately.
