Good solid rifle...
Accuracy is there also. From customer reports, they shoot darn good...the few I have shot were not spectacular tack drivers, in the 1 to 1.5 MOA range(100y)...

I don't own a Venture but I will say the Icon is a great rifle! I own two Thompsons an Icon and an Encore and both are very well made rifles. I believe Thompson's customer service is top notch as well!

Good Luck,
David

I made a spreadsheet recently while searching for a less-than-7mm caliber, lighter bolt gun for hogs and turkey. I included all of the current sub-$600 crop. Here's what I dug up based on ours of reading comments on all of them:

Rifle Specs
30-06 Weight OA Length Barrel Length Adj Trg Accuracy Comments Price ($)
Howa 1500 7.6 42.5 Yes Good "Feels cheap" 452
Remington 700 SPS 44.5 24 No Good Junk! 533
Savage 111FHNS 6.5 42.75 22 Yes Excellent 578
Savage 111FXP3 6.5 42.75 22 Yes Excellent Scope Package 574
TC Venture 7.5 43 Yes MOA guarantee; reports excellent Awesome value. 450
Tikka T3 Lite 6.3 42.5 Yes MOA guarantee Integral scope rail 498
Weatherby Vanguard 7.5 44.5 Yes Good Howa action 400
Ruger Hawkeye 7.5 42.75 No Iffy QA issues? 596
Marlin XL7 6.5 42.5 22 Yes Excellent Scope base incl. 309
Stevens 200 6.75 42.75 22 No Excellent Best value? 323

The Venture was/is winning out, with a Tikka T3 Lite running second. The Venture is a wee bit longer and heavier than some, but the comments on accuracy and quality and the way it looks and feels in the store is winning me over. Dick's has the 30-06 Venture on sale for $429 and I wish I'd bought it instead of the 7600 today. :(

IMHO the Thompson has a much better integral scope rail than the Tikka. I looked at both. The scope rail on the T/C is sweet.

Handled a Venture in the store today 30-06, I like the gun. Fit and finish were nice and I think a very good value for the money. I noticed that the bases are provided but they are not the same integral rail that is on the Icon. Not crazy about the stock but overall I was impressed with the rifle for the money.

I got my 30-06 Venture about a month ago and I love it. Shoots under MOA out of the box just as advertised. I shopped around for 2 years looking for a new deer rifle at a reasonable price. I found what I was looking for in the Venture. I have 2 friends that have the 7mm mag. version that really like them. I'm just not a magnum rifles fan.
