You need more Stickys and a Politics thread

. . . rather than just closing politics threads. I think it's important to communicate about these matters and should have a topic for it. Contrarily, do we really need the same threads over and over about the Mini's accuracy; the Mini v. the AR; and which is the better SKS - the Yugo or the Russian? Just put them as stickys.

More stickies=defeats the point of stickies.

With all due respect, we've tried the Politics thing. It never, ever, EVER works out. People take sides and start getting angry, then things go so far off of the High Road it isn't funny.
I suggest that if you want to discuss politics, you find a political forum. We quite like THR as it is.

Maybe we should outlaw "Open carry, good idea?" threads as well as they seem to turn out the same way :D
One thing that's sorely lacking in the firearms community as a whole is acceptance of gun-loving liberals. Guns should not be a partisan affair. By disallowing political discussion THR is a welcoming place for ALL firearm enthusiasts. Keeping the main thing the main thing is important.

I have been around THR a long time, and I remember the bad old days of the political forum. There are several problems with having a political forum, to include that moderating such a forum takes up a great deal of moderator time. The other thing is, the discussions simply don't stay civil or on topic. People think that they will stay civil and on topic, but they don't. Ever. Most importantly, however, is the fact that we are a gun forum. THR has a narrow focus limited specifically to guns. Not guns plus a open chat, not guns plus a recipe section, and not guns plus discussions about politics. Oh, we have the non-firearms weapons section, but that is the only real exception to that statement.
Anyway, long story short, you are wasting your time wishing for a political forum, and stuff gets stickied as often as is justifiable to do so. My personal opinion is that people don't pay attention to stickies all that much anyway! If you think that it is important to discuss the issues there are plenty of forum options on the web to do so. THR is by far and away my favorite forum, but it is by no means the only forum I post on...

Really, 110 posts and 5 months a member and you got it figured out.
So the 1/2 million threads, 6 million posts and 14,000 active members since 02 have not given the admins and mods a clue as to what works and works well?
No need to reply, you sir have hit my ignore list.

If only they did... Yeah...wait a minute...isn't there a sticky about why we don't have a political forum?
There are so many things that could be very legitimately stickied, but obviously ... I mean obviously ... people really don't read the stickies we do have, and the longer the list of stickies, the fewer ever get read.
'Sides. If we stickied all the hashed-out, tired, beatin'-a-dead-horse threads, there would hardly be any conversation at all! :D There's not much out there that hasn't been said before.
