Hello,

This is my 2nd kit build(my first was a Kentucky pistol back in 1980), and my first experience with a double set trigger. I disassembled the mechanism in order to apply the metal finish on the triggers, but I'm having a heluva time trying to figure out how to properly install the front trigger return spring. I understand the dynamics of the overall mechanism, but that doggone little spring is currently a source of much frustration. If anyone knows the proper installation maneuver, I'd sure appreciate it:)

Thanks in advance,
Rich

Here's a PDF schematic of their Hawken/Penn. rifle that includes a diagram of the trigger mechanism.

Thanks for the quick response, articap! I figured out my problem: a small piece of the spring must have broken off when I took the trigger apart. The tip of the spring is not long enough and can no longer keep contact with the trigger when it's pulled. I'll have to contact Traditions and find a replacement spring unless someone knows a fast, alternate source for this part.

Thanks again!

If it's a flat spring you can use a old feeler gauge to fashion you one up & just replace it, ive done that to a few C&B revolvers & a Rifle trigger spring once.

Unfortunately it's a wire spring. It looks as though the end that hooks onto the trigger must have snapped off. I just didn't notice it when I took the trigger group apart.
