Instructions for a Breakdown Savage Model 99
Savage .250

I got a well worn Model 99 rifle that is a "breakdown" type.
It is filthy and needs to be disassembled and cleaned in detail.
I am looking for a users manual or instructions (with Photos) on how to both take it down correctly and also disassemble it for a thorough cleanup.
Can anyone help?

Be aware that there have been several changes made to the Savage 99 over the years, and the one you have will not be exactly like the one in these instructions.
With that said, I would strongly advise you not to try to dissemble your rifle all the way.
Especially the rotary spool magazine.
I would suggest you just take off the stock and dunk the whole thing in carb cleaner or solvent.
A spray can of auto brake cleaner will also blast out a lot of the gunk.
Pick gunk loose with dental picks.
Following that, blow it out with a compressed air hose, and oil with a can of Rem-Oil spray.
Let drip dry for a day or two, then put the stock back on.
