I'm not sure if this would be the place to post this thread..But I'll try it..I am shooting a Remington Model 700...300 Ultra Mag..I use the rifle for big game hunting..my shots can be up to 500-600 yards...{Shooting Across Canyons}..I have a leupold VX11 3x9x40mm..I would like to upgrade the scope..I feel it's not enough for the rifle...I don't want at this time any of the high end optics brands..ie Zeiss.Lecia..Swararski...I think there are quality optics out there for less..I wanted to spend in the 400-600 range..That should get a good scope..what kinda scope would you recommend me with lots of makes and model/options in that range..Thanks

Bushnell has been around many years. They stand behind there scopes. Wide price range in the models available. Trophy models in 4x12 or 6x18 are a good choice for long range hunting or target work when on a budget. Or spend a few $$$ more if you feel money makes a difference. Always pick a scope with an adjustable objective. http://www.bushnell.com/products/scopes/riflescopes/trophy/736184/

Chamacat:
If you are satisfied with you Leupold's performance, then why don't you just buy another Leupold with higher optics. Use your 3x9 on another rifle or sell it online. Those 1000.00+ scopes are beautiful, but how often will you have to take avantage of their superior optics and price. Think about it!

I have always been a devoted Leupold fan. All my rifles but two have Leupold scopes. I have never had Leupold scopes fail on the bench or in the field. I've only returned one for warranty repair (friend gave me the scope due to leaky seal - too lazy to send it back to Leupold). I have several pair of binoculars including top of the line Zeiss but I carry a compact Pentax most of the time - these tired old eyes have seen better days and cannot fully appreciate the finer optics any longer. I would opt for Leupold as I have never been able to appreciate optical clarity while adrenalin pumped as I was shooting at a game animal. Yes, Swarovski,Zeiss, Leica, & etc are a bit clearer but also twice the price in some cases. My favorite all time scope is the Leupold VariX II in 2-7. Good field of view at 2x with plenty of magnification for deer size game up to 400 yards. Yes I have taken a deer with a 270 Winchester @ 350 yards without a problem using 7x in my Leupold.
I did not feel disadvantaged. I do own 4.5x14 and 6.5x20 Leupolds but use them on smaller game such as coyotes, foxes, crows, and squirrels. Just my two cents and in my experience (been hunting since I was eight now approaching 60). At any rate, Good shooting!

Check out Sightron. I got a 6.5-20x50 SII Big Sky with a mil-dot reticle from Manventureoutpost.com for 580 bucks, including shipping. Cant beat them for the money. Optics are comparable to Leupold VXII. I will say that 20 magnification is a little much for shooting big game, even at 500 yards, but If you ever feel like going farther, like out to 800 or 1000 yards it would certainly help. FYI, dont go above 20 power because much anything above that will lend itself to a lot of Mirage, making the image more blurry. By mirage I mean the heat waves.

VXIII fits your budget and if you shop around you can save some more and buy a used one.
