Hi all,
....Ordnance want to put on the M1 Garand in 1941 to 1942 and on all Garands in the field or on those to be built?
Have fun with this one.
Thanks again

Would that be the new gas cylinder, getting away from the now almost-never-seen original gas trap gas cylinder?
Hmm... that would require gas traps from adoption in 1937 to more than four years later... Maybe not.

Grump,
Nice try. No one thought about that one. However, the front end was done earlier than this NEW part.
Good Work
Thanks again

I'd guess: new trigger housing (D28290-5SA) .. or changes to the operating rod (D35382-3SA)? Both were going on during that time frame, no?

Was the new relief cut on the op rod considered a new part? (To prevent cracking at one of the angles between the camming hump and the part that rides below the chamber.)

Here's the hint: felt and glue.
Thanks again for your work, great stuff.

Hi all,
Ordnance had problems with rain. It began to rain on the troops on the firing line and the M1 Garand's started to jam and fail. These rifles were sent back to SA with data on the rain problem. Ok, Ordnance did not take this to Mr. Garand, they were going to fix it themselves. Soooo taking a guy to the range and holding a hose over him they began to see that in the area of oprod's right side bolt lug the oil washed off. Soooo, they came up with an idea about drilling a hole in that area of the oprod. Then glue into place a piece of felt cut out to fit. Now all they had to do was give each G.I. a can of oil and if in combat it rained then could after a few rounds squeeze oil into the hole in the oprod and keep the felt oiled. WHAT A BUNCH of GUYS. It cost them over 100,000 dollars on this plan. They then took it to Mr. Garand to see what he had ro say. He looked over the reports, looked over the oprod and then gave it back to them. They said, "What do you think?" I have no file on what he said but was told by guys who were there that he said "Why not use grease??" Ordnance guys walked away with their heads down, saying DUH<DUH And thus the little plastic tubes of lube were born to fit into the buttplate.
Thanks again
