Do I want Yugo or Romanian? Not really interested in Turkish; I've read too many bad experiences. I know the Romanian stuff is steel cased, is it laquered? Anyone have problems with the laquer in your rifle's chamber?

I've got a bunch of the 196gr romanian (comes in a 380rd sealed tin, right?)
It works fine; fairly accurate, not as hot as some new production S&B I have.
Keep in mind it is corrosive though :uhoh:

Most Yugo ive seen is from the early 1950's while the Romanian is from the early 1970's.I have shot both equally well but prefer to get newer when possible.

No problems with the laquered cases, then?

If you are near LR I will be so kind as to give you a few rounds of Turk so you can see what you think. I have had no problem at all with mine.

So, should I just take the 210 rounds of turk that I picked up a few weeks ago, and stuff it down in the bat cave in my SHTF collection?

You might try Century Arms. They have/had Greek 8mm in last week. It comes in 15 rd boxes and is marked 1939. I opened a couple randomly and it looks like a 198gr bullet; long taper with a boat-tail. Supposedly has a mild steel core, I didn't check that out. ~$44/750rds + ~$12.00 shipping. Going to use it in my Yugo 48.

Just ordered some Yugo 8mm for my Persian. Supposedly no steel in bullet, so it's okay for CA ranges where steel in bullets pose a fire hazard.

Yeah, I don't like that rule. I have 1000 rounds of Turk 8mm sitting in my closet because I can't use it at any of the public outdoor ranges around here.
Thing is, I don't think it has a steel core, but merely a steel jacket. They use the magnet test, it sticks, and they assume the worst. Poo.
Is cupro-nickel magnetic? I wouldn't be surprised if that was the jacket material insteaf of steel.

Id think that for SHTF 8mm youd want at least a sealed can of the early 70's Romanian stuff or better yet a full case kept nice and dry. Also toss in a few thousand rounds of 22lr.;)
