Okay people. I appreciate all the feedback you've given me so far. I am on the cusp of buying (today or tomorrow at the latest) a nib Kimber Custom II for $500.00.

This is at a local gun store and seems to be a good deal. I have never seen a nib Kimber for this low a price. I'm afraid if I hesitate it will be gone.

Anything I should be forewarned about before plunking down 500 on this?

Thanks.

It's a II, but that is still a good price.

John, what exactly have been the problems with the series II? Thanks.

Don't buy it. :uhoh:

It's a personal thing. When Kimber came out with their II series, it incorporated a firing pin block that is deactivated by the grip safety. I do not care for it. It was the solution to a problem that did not exist except in the minds of lawyers and politicians.

The Kimber is a good gun, do not get me wrong, I just do not care for the SII safety. $500 for a NIB Custom Classic is a good deal. Just so you know, the pistol is stainless with a black oxide coating.

Thanks John. I've been torn between a Sig P220 and 1911 as my next .45ACP purchase.

I hope the Kimber might equal the Sig for reliability given that they cost about the same amount new (fingers crossed).

Get it, get it now, what are you waiting for? At $500 nib, you should have money to put down on that 220 too! ;)

John, you might want to check out CDNN (telephone 800-588-9500). They have used - but very-good-condition - SIG P220's for $375 (blued) and $399 (two-tone). I've just bought one from them. They're police trade-ins, but guaranteed to be in good condition, and CDNN will swap it out if you find something wrong with it. Highly recommended company.

Alright, thanks guys.

Preacher - Thanks for that tip on CDNN. Do you know if the 220s are DAO?

I don't know - I guess you could ask the salesman.
