So why can't we talk about the news? I know that in a few threads discussing recent news became closed.
I think these discussions are valid and add to knowledge in regards to law and create great debates helping users decide on future action in their lives.

you can talk about the news as long as
it's firearms related
you have something intelligent to add... i.e. not just posting a link
(we're not here to create or facilitate debates though)
edit:
and firearms related means it's ABOUT the firearm, not about some dude who has a firearm. for example, every story about LEOs, military, etc is not firearm related even though firearms are present in all the stories

About the firearm, and use of the firearm are different. We should be allowed to talk about the deployment of tactics and firearms on a forum for this purpose, no?
It just seems that this would be a benifit to adding to the collective knowledge of this forum to discuss the actions in events that involve firearms.
I appreciate the feedback taliv. Thanks.

Yo Mama - a challenge for you: please give me the link to one or more closed "news" threads (and not political threads) where the original poster discussed the actions or consequences of using a firearm in at least some detail which invited an intelligent discussion of those actions. I'm not suggesting that such threads don't exist or are not closed, but I do think they are rare.

Rare indeed. Those are tough to keep gun related.

In the vast majority of all news stories:
If it involves the police, the thread degenerates into cop-bashing.
If it involves a dead perp, the thread talks about public reactions to the shooting or about personal, similar anecdotes. It becomes political and/or philosophical very quickly.
If it's about a press release from any group, it degenerates into bashing of political views or of an anti-gun group. More politics and philosophy.
But it's extremely rare that anything useful as to rational discussion ever develops...
