Is there a good low power scope that fits the rail on a tapco sks stock? Pics would be appreciated as well . . .

It doesn't matter, it won't work well whatever you get.

The only way to scope an SKS that isn't a total waste of time is the side rail, like these: http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=565

Brian,

I'll disagree with you on that one.

There is nothing wrong with this one either: http://scoutscopes.com/gallery.html The Scout mount doesn't require drilling.

I really don't care for scout mount optics but I am sure most anything with a picatinny rail mount would fit on your stock mount. There are rear mounted scope mounts that do work!

If you want to go with a conventional scope mount that is solid and still allows the receiver cover to be removed there is the Choate mount but it requires you drill and tap the receiver. I can also still use the irons and stripper clips if I want to. This is the way I went with mine. I am happy with how it came out.

TIMC,
Nice looking SKS! Did you do the mods for it to accept extended round clips? If you did how much trouble was it. I'm kicking myself for selling my Norinco SKS-D Paratrooper. I still have a mint Norinco SKS purchased in the early 90's to go along with my other weapons. I've though about an aftermarket stock like yours.
NO scope for me, the SKS wasn't meant to have a scope, IMHO! Maybe a Red dot.

Thanks,

It was all pretty easy to do, I bought a compliance kit from Tapco that included everything including one mag. The Tapco mag is about the only one on the market that actually works.

The choate scope mount still allows you to use the irons which have been replaced with Williams firesights. The scope is nice for longer ranges and old eyes. I used Acraglass to attach a Choate cheek risor to the stock for better eye alignment with the scope, this wa put on after the first picture was taken. I did have to inlet the stock a little to properly fit the scope mount.

I also threadded the barrel and added the Yugo style muzzle brake with a barrel threadding kit I bought a long time ago for my AK. They work very well and I have done 5-6 rifles with mine.

Forgot to ask is the clip a duckbill clip(extension on lip of clip)?

Yes it is but it works good and locks up tight.

The point BSW was making, and I'll second, is that the rail on the upper handguard doesn't lock down tight enough to prevent a scope from shifting. It's plastic, slid onto the gas tube, and held on a pin. A real solid set-up there:rolleyes:

Not very conducive to decent accuracy.

The Scoutscope mounts are good, but the OP asked for scopes on the Tapco stock mount. Fact is, they are pretty crappy for mounting optics.

But, what do we know...

Is there any way to better secure the upper handguard? I really want a scout scope.

I'd look into the link that Nowhere Man provided for a good Scout-type mount. That said, they are good, but still a bit high mounted.
