I've seen these at JG for $209 and Bud's for $279. I've heard they are trade in's from Brinks Security or some such firm.

I'd love to have one, IF they're in good shape and not worn "smooth out".

Has anyone bought one of these trade in M64s and, if so, how was the condition of the revolver?

Thanks.

They are probably like other Smiths J&G has had in the past..........carried a lot and shot very little.

scratched, dinged, and perhaps a bit rusted.... EXTERNALLY... internally, flawless....

it is easy to smooth out minor blemishes in the stainless and, at most, buy a new set of grips of your choosing...

Thanks. I'm not worried about external dings, only that the internal parts are in good working order.

J&G seems to have DAO only 64's. Buds has 64 trade in as well for $279. They appear to be SA/DA. Anyone have any input on the 64's from Buds?

JG also has model 67 DAOs with the hammer spur for $279, which seems like the worst of both worlds to me. I have no problem with DAO but then there's no need for the hammer spur.

The 64's from Bud's are 64-7s, which means MIM parts and internal lock. That is a deal killer for me. If it isn't for you, they are probably in better external shape than the ones from J&G. I got a 64-5 from J&G. Its beat up on the outside, but super clean and mechanically perfect.

What i've got from Bud's reviews are the things have been shot to the point of needing rebuilt.Bought a 870 from Wells Fargo that shows that unlike LEO, security guards really dont give a hoot about what they carry and upkeep.

I ordered a total of 14 from another supplier (to the FFL holder I use), and bought 2 model 64's and a model 10 for myself (the others were purchased by members of the PPC league I shoot in). I was able to look at all 14 guns when I went to pick up mine, they were all pretty dirty, with a lot of holster wear. All were very serviceable and cleaned up really well. I believe they are Austrian police and customs trade-ins if my supplier got them from the same place as Buds and J&G. Some come with fake Pachmayer grips (Uncle Mikes), some with Hogue monogrips (well used), and some with plain beat-up wood grips. Look on the side of the barrel or under the crane for a stamp added by agency they were originally purchased by to verify. The model 10 got did have a beautifull set of factory wood grips on it though, and only minor wear to the bluing.

I just checked Gunbroker, the supplier I got mine from currently has 4 model 64's listed. I wouldn't worry about mechanical condition, I have the two 64's I bought being turned into a SSR IDPA gun and a PPC gun, the gunsmith said they were in beautiful condition, and the holster wear would buff right out. Auction numbers 152498059, 152498154, 152498576, and 152498965. Hope this helps anybody who is interested. I feel I got a really good deal.

I recently paid $350 for one of these at a nearby gun show, but this particular gun had had an action job and was in like-new condition. I'd say that, provided the quality is good, this is a good bargain.
