S&W guys complain about recent production, weather it's 2008 or 1978. I've read a lot about how qulaity of Ruger 10/22's has gone way down in recent years, for various reasons. Are Ruger DA revolvers still as good as ever, or are there certain years, models, or serial number ranges that should be avoided?

The last two I got were good and the triggers were better than they were in Rugers I had in the past.

Ruger revolvers are still superb.

I have an SP101 and a GP100 made within the last four years and they are great. The GP100 has the best DA trigger pull of ANY revolver I've ever handled.

I recently picked up a 4" Redhawk (45 colt) and a 9.5" Super Redhawk (44 mag), both used but recently manufactured and LNIB. They have the firm smooth triggers typically found on Ruger double action revolvers. Appearance quality is quite good. I have other Redhawks, Blackhawks, GP100's, and an SP101, which were purchased in used condition over the past decade or so. I can't see any difference in appearance or quality over this time period.

I was looking to get a "RISE"; SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have owned and used Ruger revolvers for 50 years, good guns, but my absolute favorite for smooth, accurate big bore shooting is my 1992 Taurus Model 441, SS, 44 Special, 6" w/4" conversion barrel. (Special project done by my request.) I have purchased 2 RNMBH 4 5/8" in the last 3 years. A 41 Mag and a 45/45 Convertible. I like them all. My RSBH in 44 took a lot of mule deer and several elk and lots of small game.

Ruger's revolvers can handle a lot, just plain tough.

As far as those poor quality 10/22's go, buy every one that people say are junk, jammers, won't feed, for half price or less.

Seems ruger is putting a junk pot metal extractor in these guns that won't hold up very long. At least that has been the case for me.

All they need are a good quality extractor. $10 bucks with shipping.

You hear the same thing about Colts as you do about Smiths and Rugers. They're all junk nowadays.:what:

Ten years ago if someone got a bad gun from one of these three, they sent it back and it was fixed....end of story. Only ones that knew about it was the owner and the gun shop he bought it from. Nowadays, the owner belongs to four gun forums and feels he has to post about his bad luck and now 6000 folk think there were four guns that were trash. By the time the story gets retold a dozen times, there's 48 guns of the same model that were trash.:rolleyes:


Smith, Colt and Ruger still make some of the finest guns available(and affordable) to the majority of us that wants one. All three have great warranties and superb customer service, they also sell more guns now than ever. Does one get by QC every once and a while? Sure, but all three stand behind their guns and their reputation. While many may argue that this is better than that, most of it is just moot and personal preference. Odds are that you will love your new Ruger.

I think the new ones are as good as the older ones. I personally like my speed six and security six better than my GP 100, but I can not complain about the GP 100 , it is a fine gun, especially after I had the trigger worked on. And the little SP101 in 357 magnum is a joy to carry. I also like my single six and Blackhawk as well, all nice guns for a reasonable price, and they will take a lot of hot loads too, something many others cannot do.

All the Rugers I have now or had have been very good. I first owned a MarkI 22LR. Excellent pistol. Only complaint. A bitch to take apart and put together. Second gun was a New Model Blackhawk 357. Great gun. No complaints. Third gun a Police Service Six 4 inch. I still have the revolver and its one of my "go to guns". I just bought a GP100 4 inch stainless steel and love it! Not quite as good a trigger as the Police Service Six but the Service Six is well broke in. I rate my GP100 as good as my Smith & Wesson 686 4 inch. The 686 has a little better trigger but also the Smith is older. I feel the GP100 trigger will become just as go.

On a another note. I am in the market for a 9 mm pistol for plinking. I am looking at the Ruger P95. I can buy one new for $299.00. Anybody have any experience with this pistol.

Getting back in to the conversation; I prefer a Security six to a GP100, just my preference. My oldest Ruger is a pre Mark I Standard Model 22 LR semi-automatic pistol, 6", fixed sights and so good that when I tear it down and clean it I just put all the parts in a box and shake it and it jumps back together and all I have to do is lock the bolt back with the safety and insert magazine, drop the bolt and go!!!!

I have purchased a Ruger LCP, LCR, SR9, SR-556, Mini-14 Tactical, and a Blackhawk .44 Special in the last 2 years.

Every single one was pefectly finished. Every single one shot flawlessly. Either Ruger is making great guns or I have amazingly good luck!

I have several Rugers

.45LC about 12 years old and one of the smoothest revolvers I've ever shot.

Also have a .32 H&R mag, birdshead, nickel plated, had to send it back twice before I could even shoot it, I posted here about two and a half years ago. Now that it's fixed it's great. How they sent it back to me the first time escape me once it was loaded the cylinder wouldn't turn.

Also have a .22 with the interchangeable cylinder in 8 3/8" barrel. Love it.

Only Ruger I have is SP snub 357 for over a year...put about 1k rounds through it and it gets better the more I shoot it.

In the past couple of years I've purchased a pair of factory new GP100's (4" ss and 6" blues), and both are superb guns.

I have several rugers-from a Mark11 to a super blackhawk, along with their 44 mag lever action,and reload most of what I shoot(except the 22's). Ruger in my opinion are some of the best handguns and long guns you can buy, and for the most part affordable. They can take just about anything you want to put thru them, and never fail. You just can't go wrong with a Ruger.

I don't have much use for their semi-autos, but the revolvers rock. I have old ones and new ones in various calibers. No difference in handling, fit, finish, or accuracy. American classics for a whole lot less money than you'd pay another company for comparable quality.

...stumbled upon a GP100 3" stainless around Nov...it shoots better than any revolver I've ever owned...carried it with or instead of my P90 ever since...may be better than the Speed-Six I had in the 70s...MAY...

Rugger prolly does have great customer service. Highpoint does too. And they have a lifetime warrenty on $179 guns. Doubt they get any govt contracts either. LCR is not in same quality class as Highpoint

Actually, Ruger has installed key locks on some new ones. Have to remove a grip panel on a New Vaquero and there it is. Lawyer droppings everywhere!!!!!!!!
