I found this company at one time just trying to find out what it was called. They offer a semi automatic ''hk-416'' gas piston ar. I think it either has some greek/roman name or something to do with lightning but I still can't remember :P

none of these are HK's so they suck and will get sued by HK.

at least thats what the fans will be saying.

Titan might...if it's really a direct copy like it appears.

Isn't HK releasing a semi-auto 416 some time this year? http://www.hk-usa.com/civilian_products/mr556_general.asp

Yes...but will be considerably more than like the Titan, LMT, or LWRC most likely. Though with Sig releasing theirs at like $1300 that might change.

In which case, the Taiwanese will have a precedent to sue HK, since they came up with the concept - and put it into service - long before H&K ever did.

Pretty sure HK did not invent the gas-piston AR. Lots of companies sell piston ARs now.

Don't think anyone said they did, but they have their own system which can be patented, just like others (if dis-similar enough). Their bolts are different than say an LMT. If you do a direct copy you'll hear from them.

What patent? Its a gas piston. You have to show some unique new and special way of doing the job.

SIG has a gas piston, and Remington already has the ACR video posted/leaked on Youtube. Ruger has a gas piston. Stag has a gas piston.

Gas piston operation has been around longer than direct impingement. Patents only last 17 years, gas pistons have been out for 70.

HK designed the 416 to fit the Armalite pattern rifle as owned and perfected by Colt firearms. I don't think they would be allowed a patent.

What do they do on their bolt to try and reduce carrier tilt? There are lots of little things that go in to the piston system that can be patented. I saw that the new Sig piston AR-15 used a direct copy of the LWRC bolt and LWRC wasn't real happy, as they had a patent on it.

They can still sue you. Doesn't mean they'd win in court, but...
