Hello, my dad saw a side by side double barrel pistol, smaller but not small as a regular derringer. it shots both .410 and 45 long colt. i thing he said it may have had double hammers. kinda looked like a min stage coach gun. but he didnt see what brand it was. he has decided he wants one. so if anybody can help with what brands, models of these there are. thank you.

That said, if he really wants something like that, I'd recommend looking at Bond Arms. Their stuff seems to be quite well made.

i just looked up reviews on the cobray, not the best. most say bond arms and American arms are better. but i also know he really wants a side by side. any other brands besides cobray available?

I can't say that I've seen any that didn't look exactly like those Cobray ones, if they aren't the same, it looks like they are the same design. Sometimes they are marketed as Leinad. I don't know the difference between the two.

There have, however, been many derringers made over the years by many companies. It's possible your father might have seen one of these.

If he wants one "just to have", I suppose it would be ok. For the most part, derringers have fallen out of favor for self-defense. If he is set on a derringer for self-defense, it really would be worth it to step up to one of the nice ones, even if it isn't side by side.

he mainly just wants a .410 pistol to shoot rattle snakes. he just really liked the look of the side by side. but last night he said it doesnt really matter to him if over under or side by side.

It's a decent little derringer if you like primitive looking firearms that you first shoot at arms length in case it blows up on you....also comes as the basis for a nice survival 410 shotgun.

I bought my cobray in 94 or 96 and have never had a problem with it yet. I've even used it as a hammer to get my fuel pump to work. Nothing like a $105.00 hammer :)

I have a Cobray and it's worked quite well for well over a year now. It is a hand full when firing 3" slugs though... I got mine for just a hair over $100...
