I am in need of assembly disassembly instructions for this shotgun, or an exploded view or parts diagram. Any help I get will be greatly appreciated.

Pick up a copy of "The Gun Digest Boook of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly, Part V Shotguns," SECOND EDITION. by J.B. Wood. It shows the takedown of the 520. Make sure it's the SECOND EDITION.

Woody, also try Numrich Gun Parts Corp. on line. They have parts for the 520 and 520A and you can also download the same exploded view from the previous post. I have a 620 which is very similar for my HD shotgun and I love it, except for the fact it is a 16 gauge and ammunition selection is limited.

Hi, Woody, and welcome aboard!

The old Browning- designed 520/620 and its 'hardware store' marked variations are some of my favorite shotguns. Sorry to hear you're having trouble with yours, and I hope you can get it worked out.

First, of course, you'll want to make sure that both chamber and magazine are empty of any ammunition before beginning. Inspect visually and by feel to make sure.

Then with the action cocked, safety on, and bolt all the way back/action all the way open, grasp the ridges at the front of the magazine tube and turn the tube clockwise (rear view). Turn the tube until the 'keystone' of the magazine tube support withdraws itself fully from its notch in the receiver, and until it stops. At that point, push the barrel assembly gently downwards and the bottom of the receiver behind the ribbed barrel block gently upwards at the same time. The barrel assembly will slide down out of the receiver a short distance until it is stopped by contacting the action bar, inside the receiver.

At this point, slide the forearm all the way forward, maintaining a grasp on the barrel assembly and receiver assembly as they should easily separate at this time. Push the barrel assembly down the rest of the way out of the receiver. This completes the 'takedown' of the gun into its two major components. Reverse these steps to re-assemble. This is IMHO the finest takedown system ever devised for a repeating shotgun, and makes a 520 or 620 riot length gun an excellent traveling companion.

If you want to disassemble the barrel assembly, simply remove the single screw which holds the magazine end piece to the barrel lug. Be aware the end piece is under pressure from the magazine spring, and will launch itself if removed without being contained. With the end piece and magazine spring removed, the other components of the barrel assembly can be separated.

The receiver assembly is more complex. To begin, remove the stock screw from the top tang of the receiver, and dismount the stock.

To remove the trigger plate assembly, first take out the cross screw at the lower rear corner of the receiver on the left (from the butt) side. Then drift out the cross pin at the lower edge of the receiver just in front of the trigger guard. I generally prefer to remove components like this in American designed guns from the left side, and reinstall them from the right side but YMMV. With this cross pin drifted out, the trigger plate assembly (including the lower tang) should come out if pulled straight down out of the receiver.

Turn the receiver with its top down toward the workbench. Move the bolt forward in the receiver. Swing the lifter/shell carrier down out of the receiver and remove it by sliding it inward (toward the left) off its pivot post.

Keep the bolt slide plate pushed to the rear of the bolt, and push the bolt forward out of the front of the receiver. It might be necessary to remove the bolt stop screw on the left side of the receiver at the upper left corner before the bolt will come free of the receiver.

That should get you access to the firing pin.

Reassemble in reverse order...
