More on Misfiring Mak

I took Mak number 2 out to the range today for the third time. In previous outings I have experienced light strike misfires about once per mag. This time the result was different, there were no misfires in perhaps two mags but a series of misfires during one or two other mags. This pistol has never misfired double action, only single action. With the series of misfires, the round would always fire on the second attempt, double action.
I have removed the firing pin and cleaned the firing pin well. All looks satisfactory. I replaced the main spring with one from Makarov.com. The previous time I went to the range I switched slides on my two Maks and both fired fine through two mags each. I cannot see any difference between Mak number 1, which has always performed perfectly, and Mak 2, which has this misfiring problem. I am truly puzzled. Any further ideas? I have a number of spare parts, including hammer, sear, and trigger bar.

(also posted on a Mak forum)

Thanks,

No solution, but I also have that problem on a couple of my Maks.

I think I mentioned it before but have you taken both maks take the slides off and placed a round in each barrel to compare the depth that the chamber was cut on both. The mak I had was cut to deep and I replaced the spring too but nothing helped untill I took some material off the face off the barrel so the round didn't chamber so far into the barrel. Only took off a little but it made the differance. Mark

I have just replaced the sear, slide stop, hammer, trigger bar, and trigger on my misfiring Mak. I previously replaced the hammer spring. I wasn't able to replace the safety because the detent spring was so stiff I could get it into place. I will try out the gun with these new parts and try to repalce the safety if I am still having problems.

By the way, getting all these parts back together drives me nuts. It wasn't any easier the second time around.
