Wow! Heckuva blaster.

How do they twist that barrel into the frame and can you get any night firing pix?

Don't need a flashlight for night shoots with that thing... you can just use the muzzle flash.

That's just too cool. Who did the work? I can't seem to find anyone willing to cut the barrel on one of those things.

Thanks guys, Brasso, I did the work myself. Regards Mike:D

Wow, nifty neat-o keen. Here's to hoping you never need to do a barrel change ;)

Considering how bad the regular .454 kicks with full tilt loads, I'm wagering it only will get shot with .45 Colts.

If you do intend to shoot it with full power .454's, I suggest you load one, so when it knocks you out cold the paramedics won't have to unload the gun.

I have shot about 40 full house loads through it so far. About 12 at a sitting seems about right. Regards Mike

Mike, if you don't mind giving away trade secrets, exactly how did you shorten that barrel? I assume you removed it from the frame, cut it down, and re-crowned it: but how did you get any purchase on it to re-screw it back into the frame?

:what:  :scrutiny:

I don't know how this revolver was done, but I have read about a regular redhawk in 44 mag that someone shortened himself. He simply did not remove the barrel.

You can shorten the barrel with anything that cuts metal. Hacksaw or whatever. To get a recessed crown at the muzzle, I assume the crown is the end of the rifling as the bullet leaves the gun, he used some polish and a round bolt head. Not the most precise method, but after messing around on some old metal pipes it seems to work well.

I forget how the site was then reinstalled.

I have been considering this for a year or so now, I suspect it may be a winter project for those days I can't get out of the drive way.

Hi Preacherman,
I did not remove the barrel, I cut it off in place , then I squared it up as much as possilble on a disc sander. Then I bought a carbide router bit & made a brass bushing to fit the end of the barrel & used a cordless drill to cut the inverted crown, then smoothed the cut up with sandpaper on the end of the drill. Then finally buffed it on a buffing wheel. :D Regards Mike

Hi P95Carry,
I took a old win. model 70 front rifle sight & modified it to put a hi-viz insert in it & to fit the frame. Then I drill & tapped the frame & used allen screws to fasten it to the frame. Regards MIke

Then I drill & tapped the frame ''Frame''?? Do you mean barrel rib? ..... looks good tho .... and that material is far from the easiest to drill and tap either. Nice job .. very nice.:)

Hi P95Carry,
Actually it is the frame, it looks like the barrel rib. More so because I welded up the scope ring slots & dressed & polished them down. :D Regards Mike

I never cease to be amazed by the ingenuity and craftsmanship demonstrated by the members of THR. Congratulations on a superior effort.

Do you have any chrony readings of FH 454 loads from that barrel length? And what P95 said: pictures of night shots are demanded. :D

Show up at the range, carrying it in a standard 7½ Super Blackhawk holster...

and then watch the looks on everyone's faces when they see you draw it.

Based on P95's raging bull muzzleblast pictures, I thin singed eyebrows are a possibility. Definitely will be "illuminating" in an up-close and personal way. Very nice.
