Hi,

I have an 1895 3006 that I bought new awhile back. It has been fired a few times and stored upright in a safe with the safety on and hammer down.

Yesterday I took it oout to take some comparison pictures between it and a 1873 (see rifle forums). I noticed that the hammer would not drop past the position it would if it were on 'safe'. It wouldn't touch the firing pin.

So I thought there was a problem with the safety stuck on 'safe'. I pulled the stock off today and the safety does work, but the hammer will not drop. I cleaned out all the dried white grease i could see and oiled it well with rem oil and it still doesnt drop enough to hit the firing pin.

Any ideas?

I'll go take some pictures and post while you guys come up with a solution ;)

Hmmm...after cleaning and reassembling with the stock it looks like it's working again. I'll shoot it this soon and see how it does.

I happen to have one of those, too.

While I didn't have trouble with my 1895, I did have similar trouble with a Winchester 9410, which has an almost identical tang safety.

The tang safety has to move clear of the hammer shelf, or the hammer can't drop to the firing position.

It could be something as simple as a rough edge. The safety button has to be able to move all the way front/back, too, or its diagonal slot won't move the safety L and R.

Maybe check for stock interference with the safety?
