My first AR 15!

January 6, 2010, 04:50 AM
Well my christmas present to myself came in today. a beautifully finished Double Star flattop M4. i field stripped it, gave it a good cleaning and lubed her up good

ill probably eventually mount a nice scope on it, but id like to get good with the peep/post sight first. attached a daniel defense adjustable rear sight. the rifle has a great clean look to it. great feel. trigger is very nice compared to a few other rifles i have. absolutely 0 take up and a very crisp break.

going to take it to the range tomorrow. CANT WAIT! ill post some pics of the range trip along with some paper.

her rugged good looks:

Nice rifle. Just fyi, the rear aperture on your irons is for beyond 200 yards. Flip it to the big hole for distances out to 200.

that may be true but i like the precision of the smaller peep. ill try both tomorrow and see what i like most.

reminds me of my first AR when I first got it. I was so excited!

So do you plan to keep it more or less like it is, or are you going to start down the dark path of hanging a bunch of stuff off your "black rafle" like so many of us have?

Finally got some range time with this little gem. went to a local outdoor range that is a bit more unrestricted than most. a good thing in my opinion. anyways i braught 200 rounds and some Shoot N See paper.

First let me say that this AR is FUN! i fired the full 200 without any problems. It felt solid/great the whole time. it was my first time with the rifle and my first time using AR type peep sights. once i got accustomed to the package i really started doing well.

It is a single stage trigger with 0 play and breaks cleanly. i dont have a trigger guage but i would guess its around 5 lbs.

i fired the rifle as fast as i could with a clip or two and it cycled great. the rest of the time i really focused on accuracy. Below is my best 5 shot group. considering im a bit nearsighted im happy with it.

Edit: in response to post #8. I have ordered a nice front quad rail along with a vertical grip. I also picked up 3 magpul pmags. they seem pretty darn solid. This is all i plan to do at the moment but in the future i will definitely find a nice scope for it. i want to test its accuracy limits. also ill probably get a streamlight TLR-1 for some light.

Can you please divulge where you bought this great looking gun?

January 12, 2010, 01:00 AM
yea i picked it up NIB from good company. ive purchased quite a few firearms from them. this one was a great deal. had excellent reviews.

January 12, 2010, 02:07 AM
Thanks. Been to Buds before and pretty much all their prices are great and reviews say the service is great. Is that rear site removable?

January 12, 2010, 02:14 AM
I know you'll like it; I know I love my Double Star!

January 12, 2010, 07:59 PM
Is that rear site removable?

yea its a daniel defense adjustable rear sight. (easily removable) I should have gotten a flip-down rear sight, but this one still works great.

January 12, 2010, 08:15 PM
That rear site really adds a lot to the looks of that rifle.

It really looks unique!
