Would you sign a petition to recall Gov. Jim Doyle?
:neener:

Have I missed out on something? Is Doyle in trouble, or is the paper just running that poll out of the blue?

WI is the third-higest taxed state in the U.S. and people are sick of it. There's a big undercurrent of resentment that Doyle vetoed the property tax freeze this summer. Also District 2 will be out for Sen. Plale's blood over his last minute reversal on the veto override for it as well. He probably voted for CCW thinking it will appease the conservatives in the southeren portion of his district, and perhaps even ovveride the govenor's veto to try and "cancel out" his las minute flip-flop sustain vote on the tax freeze veto.

The paper's won't give it any play, because they consistently try to use rigged polling data to downplay the "gun vote" in WI, but the promised veto of the CCW bill is also a contributing factor. Doyle also gets very little backing from the liberal/Democratic machine in WI, since he never made friends during his long tenure as Attorney General.

Add to that the still-fresh memory of the HUGE recall turnover in the Milwaukee county government (Milwaukee is sort of the "California" for the rest of WI at times.), add to that some successfull state legislative recals, and ousters due to crime/scandal, and you've got a recall-ripe environment here in WI.
