Well, trying to keep the wolf from the door I tried my hand at making a line of stickers via CafePress. I ordered a couple and UNLIKE their shirts, the quality seems to be pretty darn good on these things, so I felt comfortable using them.

But... as you can see, I kinda ran dry on backgrounds and taglines after a while, so I thought I'd ask here for help. Any gun/RKBA related ideas or suggestions you have, I'd love to hear! Same with feedback for that matter.. if there's improvements you can suggest in what I already did, I'd love to hear the advice!

http://www.rkbagear.com

To make it worth your while... tell y'all what... anyone floats an idea I use, I'll send you a link where you can get the thing at cost, with no markup from me. Anyone gives an idea that say sells ten copies in the first full month its up, I'll send you one on my dime. Fair?

what is the reason for the black border?
it infringes the flag for no good design reason

the rear of the M4 stock blocks 3 stars, why?

the FREEDOM text should be in leading Caps
Swashed all caps is a typographic violation of the 3rd rule

Where didja get the gun art?

Yeah, as a graphic designer, I think that Caps And Lower Case is a lot easier to read.

For emphasis, go bolder.

I think that the idea should be to make people think.

Avoid "preaching to the choir" - of course, people _will_ buy 'em... Keep the message simple.

I've always wanted this one but haven't found it.

Attention Criminals:

Gun Free Zone (in a black circle with a red hash mark through it).

I'd like to put it in the window next to my front door.

I saw this once...the guy said he got it in England, but that the shop that sold it is no longer there...I don't have graphics, but I can describe it:

Green Pistol Sillouette (was a PPK, but I'd love to see a 1911) next to the words "Green Piece" on a black background.

Over 99% of gun owners didn't murder anyone today.

Saying that carrying a gun means
that you are "looking for trouble"
makes as much sense as saying that wearing a seatbelt means
that you are "looking for an accident"

A world without guns would be much safer, just ask anyone who died during the Middle Ages.

Your "hunting rifle" and "skeet shotgun" are next on their list!

The Million Mom March is none of the above.

If guns cause crime, then cameras cause pornography.

This may have already been done as well, but you know those white ovals people put on their cars to designate Country of Origin for racing and ferry crossings?

I would love an Oval with AR15 in it. You could also have AK47, FAL, M1A, M14, 1911, M9, etc.

I was thinking of making a t-shirt with the following message...

"Teach safety, not fear"

...accompanied by one or two simple pictures (line type drawings) of firearms.

Feel free to use this idea; I'll probably never get around to doing it myself.

When my kids were still little in the early 90's, we were at the range and one of them had taken his muffs off just as I began shooting my StreetSweeper SG. I let one go and my kid says "Dad whats in my ears going eeeeeeee?" I said "That's the sound of Freedom, son. Dontcha remember the song that goes...Le-et freedom ring?" I made him put his muffs back on, but the next day he came home from school with a picture he had colored of the StreetSweeper with the inscription "Let Freedom Ring" below it.

That picture hung on the refrigerator a long time. Mama's got it put away in a box somewhere now, but I thought it conveyed so much with so little.

"Let Freedom Ring"

Would work with almost any weapon pic. AR maybe?

wow... sorry for not answering sooner -- some great ideas, thank you!

First... gun-fucious, you WOULD pick my least favorite of the line there. ;)Yeah, I agree that text ain't the best. I think I'll pull that "Freedom" line till I can just draw up the calligraphy myself, convert it to vector, and redo. Thanks for calling me on it -- it's good to have an honest critic!

And to answer your question, all the images are original (did 'em in Illustrator, if you're curious), but copied (more or less) from photographs. Also, the black border is thicker in the "preview" image than in real life -- there's an extra 1/4" on each side there for bleed in case they miscenter the image on the vinyl sticker. On the "real thing" it's just a thin frame to the image.

Again -- some WONDERFUL ideas here, THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I'll post when I have some of 'em ready, if you want to see 'em. (And PM the originators with their "nomarkup" URLS, as promised.)

and Kamicosmos... already done...

You get your choice of plain, color, and alone or with an AR, AK, M14, M4 carbine, 1911 or Glock. Celebrate diversity, right? :)

Again -- THANK YOU everyone! :D

Kaylee, whats the deal on Cafepress t-shirts? No good? :(

I ordered a cap and quickly dropped them from my shop. What about their mugs?

Thanks.

Nightwatch - The t-shirt I did on cafepress came out OK, not great and the color was much darker than the image I used. A little pricey also. The mug came out better, but after a couple dozen times in the dishwasher it has faded significantly.

What's the point of that? Implying that Sarah Brady deserves to be shot is a horrible thought, and is not going to win over any fence sitters.

Anyway, here's my submissions:

If you're against guns, don't get one

Pro-Choice with a picture of a gun. Who says that "choice" is an exclusive synonym for "legalization of abortion"? You never hear politicians say something like, "While I'm personally opposed to firearms ownership, I wouldn't interfere with the rights of another person who chooses to own a gun."

Those two obviously borrow cliches from the abortion debate, since the Left seems to view Roe v. Wade as America's First Freedom.

oooh.. MadMan, I like. I kinda did the same thing with this one:

http://logo.cafepress.com/4/919267.185714.gif (http://www.cafeshops.com/rkbagear.8311182)

"Too trailer park" one guy here said, but I kinda figured the in-your-face bit of it would appeal to the AK guys. :D

as far as the quality of the T-shirts.. well, I had a long reply typed out for that, then figured it really wan't on topic. So if you want more details, PM me. Summary version.. I think CafePress shirts stink, or at least did in 2001.

Someone in the tremors thread posted this image

And if you could get Mr. Gross' permission to use his likeness in a similar designed bumper sticker, I would love one. If it is too much trouble, I still like the catchphrase and something like this

Would still be pretty keen.

Over on Free Republic I saw a very basic and subtle design: it was just black on white RKBA letters in a black oval, exactly like European nationality stickers.

The beauty of this simple design is that intelligent well traveled folks like to figure out the esoteric nation stickers, so they will ponder the RKBA. Eventually it'll click, especially if lots of shooters put on this low key decal.

Got color versions as well.

Daedalus -- cool! Um... is Burt well known for saying that line? I don't recall it.

Hrmm... I'm envisioning....
imagine a .50cal, a barret or something, in the foreground. Tagline says BOOM!

Then, in tiny little text, a little arrow pointing to a microscopic dot in the distance:
"there it is."

okay... bad 90's pop culture reference. I'll stop. :)

I'd keep it subtle, and avoid references to violence, resistance, or anything which can be spun to make wearers seem like paranoid nuts or potential law breakers.

I particularly like the ovals without the gun images and the idea of using "pro choice."

To borrow from opponents of the "abstinence only" (http://plannedparenthood.org.master.com/texis/master/search/?q=%22abstinence+only%22&xsubmit.x=0&xsubmit.y=0&s=SS) method of sex education, here are some variations. Imagine a picture of some time of firearm where appropriate. I'll leave the actual work to somebody who has some PhotoShop skills, unlike me.

"Abstinence Only" Is Not a Method of Gun Safety

"Abstinence Only" is Dangerous and Irresponsible (http://www.plannedparenthood.org/about/president/020416_yale.html)

Choose Safety and Education Instead of the "Abstinence Only" Approach

Sex or Guns: "Abstinence Only" Promotes Ignorance

Don't Keep Your Kids Ignorant

Safety: Choose Education, Not Ignorance

Safety: Choose Training, Not Ignorance

Anyway, you get the idea.

Any other sacred cows of the Left that we can use to jump-start their brain cells?

"Corporation" seems to be a dirty word among the socialist elements of the Left. Of course, they are unaware that corporations actually donate money to many leftist causes, including the gun control lobby.

Maybe something along these lines will get the attention of those socialists:

Corporations Want to Take Away Your Guns. Why?

Why do Corporations Support Gun Control?

The Corporate Media Is Anti-Gun

Gun Control = Corporate Control

TheHighRoad.org : An Alternative to the Mainstream Corporate Media

If anyone asks, remind them how labor disputes used to be settled, back in the days before unions, when the government would loan machine guns to mining companies. Maybe a pick-axe and machine gun picture might be appropriate. A Never Again sticker might also be appropriate (as in, "Never again will companies be able to gun down their workers with impunity," if anybody asks.)

Obviously, some of these are designed to appeal to the romantic self-image of "resistance fighter," except against evil corporations, instead of against evil government. I'm not entirely happy with the theme, but it's just brainstorming, and maybe somebody else can improve upon it.

When dealing with these types, don't speak of the "liberal media," speak of the "corporate media." For example, Donna Dees-Thomas, who organized the Million Mom March, receieved favorable publicity from CBS, who portrayed her as an apolitical suburban mom, rather than a publicist for CBS. Viacom, which owns CBS, donated money to the Million Mom March.
