Remington 870 express question

On my 870, when the chamber is empty and the gun is not cocked the fore-end sort of just falls down on its own, but when the gun is racked it locks solid like its supposed and the only way to open it is by either shooting or pressing the slide release button.
Is it normal for an uncocked 870's fore-end to move around up and down like this? sorry if the explanation is bad its just hard to explain.

do you mean the forend rattles? or when the gun is vertical the bolt/forend will slide back by it self?

When the shotgun is uncocked, the fore end will move back and forth about an inch or so on its own when you tilt it up or down.
It doesn't cock the hammer or expose the chamber or anything but it just moves a bit.

Just means the gun is getting broken in good!

this occurs after it's broken in, a good way to tell the difference in a brand new, and well broken in 870 in a pawn shop. all of mine do this.. and none of them jam.
if one DIDN'T have the forward rattle, i'd be MORE suspicious of it than if it did.
