Has anyone heard of this new 1911 Desert Eagle from Magnum Research?

It is not like I need another 1911, but one from Magnum Research has me interested?

I like the looks of it. Price is decent also.

Ugh. I hate front slide serrations.

I'll bet it's just as good as a taurus 1911 based on the price. Take that for what you will.

I believe it is made by Bul.

The story is it was contracted by Charles Daly, but Bul then gave the distribution rights to Magnum Research.

The folks at Daly are not happy.

Yep.... and for a couple of hundred dollars more, you can get a Dan Wesson .... in stainless... without the holster-chewers (front slide serrations).

too bad they didn't give it a full length rail dust cover like a Desert Eagle or Baby Eagle... they id be all over it.

I believe it is made by Bul.
At first look, the front slide serrations and sight cuts screamed Kimber. Bul slide serrations and sight dovetails are the same, so I could see that.

I hate kimber dovetails.

It looks like a slightly "tweaked" Citadel.
As if Charles Daley had something in the fire when they dropped Armscor and this is what was "left over" of the Daley Line.
I would rather have the Citadel for under $500 and do the rest myself.

Hmmm...

Seems like a couple of importers (Charles Daley & Magnum Research) are going tit for tat.

Charles Daley took over as sole importer of the IWI Jericho 941 from Magnum Research. So, no more Baby Desert Eagles from Magnum Research.

Now, Magnum Research took over a 1911 that Charles Daley had in the works.

It would be a hell of a stopper, but expensive as hell to shoot at the range!

Looks like a pretty good deal, I like Desert Eagles they are mighty fine guns, so i am assuming the 1911 they are making is another mighty fine gun also .

I am a quality freak so i the new Magnum Research has my thumbs up.

Charles Daly thought they were going to be the importer of these Bul 1911s and have been hyping it for over a year. They made a big blunder by not having a signed contract.

I have to say that I made a mistake in my previous post. I assumed that this MR 1911 was going to be a .50AE and I was wrong so my post makes no since, unless you consider .45ACP to be too expensive.

I'd buy one in .50AE as a fun gun

Can you believe this? The desert eagle is a novelty gun that is cool in movies, and now they are saying that a 1911 finally deserves the name? blasphemy, I had to take a shower after seeing the ad.

Looks like yet another filipino import with a huge, obscene roll mark on it. I don't see any reason why anyone would buy this over an RIA or a Charles Daly, apart from the juvenile appeal of owning a 'Desert Eagle' (or 'Deagle' as the kids call it nowadays).

The slide cuts and marks look really rough to me.

Looks like yet another filipino import with a huge, obscene roll mark on it. I don't see any reason why anyone would buy this over an RIA or a Charles Daly

1. Because it is not made in the made Philippines. It is made by Bul in Israel.
2. Because you can't get a Charles Daly anymore.

I'm pretty sure I won't buy one, but those are a couple of reasons why somebody may.

The point is this was supposed to be Charles Daly's new 1911 and not Magnum Research's. Charles Daly was hyping this pistol as a "high-end" production pistol and not an entry level 1911 like their Armscor supplied previous offering.

Charles Daly was hyping this pistol as a "high-end" production pistol...

BUL and Kimber look the same to me, as far as fit and finish, slide serrations, sights, small parts, MIM parts, crisp triggers, etc, so I could see this qualifying as a high end production pistol.

Having never seen a single stack BUL, I'm making my comparison based on several Kimber Polymers that I've handled (one of which I own), several BUL M5s I've handled (one of which I almost bought).

Is there some advantage to the full size (government like) barrel being 5.055” and the semi-compact "C" (commander like) barrel being a 4.33” barrel instead of 5" and 4.25" ?

I actually really like the black finish and stainless beaver tail, it's an interesting combination.

i think it's just a rebranded charles daley. IMI owns them now...

This is the probably the main reason Charles Daly went out of business.. They shoulda had a signed contract, and a more confidential marketing/development strategy. From what I understand they took design of this product to the forums to deliver a product customers wanted, and they it went to Magnum Research... Poor Mr. Kassner.

But yeah, Desert Eagle and 1911 just don't go together. In fact, could the desert eagle be the "anti" 1911? One is smooth, slim, sexy and much more precisely engineered. and the other is a big, bulky hand cannon (but a QUALITY hand cannon).

I would love to see a .50 caliber double-tap!

I just received the Digital Catalog from Magnum Research (look at the barrel lengths, weird):

Probably not; They're out of business.

Ummmm, no. KBI was a separate company that has failed.

If this would be the same as the Charles Daly, was their quality any good? Does anybody know where these are made? I had a Taurus 1911 and wasn't impressed, albeit I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was a "miss". I'm just wondering if these would be a better investment than the Taurus.

Not impressed. Nothing really revolutionary or new besides the giant desert eagle 1911 on the slide. Not any better than a 500 dollar RIA Tactical.
No front strap checkering?
Not offered in 50?
What's the point?

MAKster

The Desert Eagle 1911 is being made in Israel by BUL. KBI, who sold Charles Daly brand firearms, thought they had a deal with BUL but that fell through and now KBI no longer exists. I assume BUL realized what bad financial shape KBI was in and decided they needed a stronger U.S. partner.
