I have been looking around for a decently priced mosin mount and I finally found what seems to be the holy grail. A mount that requires no drilling/tapping, and can support a full size, non-LER scope. Just wanted your input because if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Thoughts?

Wow, the mount costs more than the gun! I've never seen that one before. Interesting concept but it makes you assume the rear sight is perfectly straight and has no play in it once mounted.

Will this work without the bolt being bent?

Nevermind: I just saw that it does require the bent bolt. Sorry :)

Boltman.com will bend your bolt for $50.

Does boltman actually bend it or chop it and replace it?

I dont know if that kind requires the allen screws that wedge into the rifle, but I have seen a few that do, and those will mar the gun and be as bad as tapping it IMO.

You might be up against the math that modifying your mil-surplus is as costly as a new Savage... (250-350 +/-). Keep an eye on the total you'll have to spend. I have a swedish mauser that the math made sense but just keep it in mind. (Unless it is what you want to do, then just do it :D)

a lot of the mounts that have set screws use brass tipped screws to keep from marring the finish. you can also buy a spare bolt body to have bent so you can return it to original when you remove the mount.

i've been thinking about making a mount simlar to what the finn's used on the TKIV-85 mosin sniper rifle but instead of using the sako style wedged dovetail using the standard 60 dovetail & a tally style recoil shoulder. of course you would have to d&t the receiver but there is a market for the mounts.
