Ok first off thanks for all of your help through replys and me searching the forum.

Well I have my press and accessories on the way now finally. I wanted to get the powder and primers locally to save on the hazmat fees, but I had already decided on W 231 (45 acp). The only problem is they dont stock it locally. I liked w 231 because I seen that I could use it on the 40 down the road. Does anyone have any other suggestions on powder for the 45 acp that works real well? Because I have seen a lot of other handgun powder locally.

Last question...does anyone have any experience with Berrys preferred plated bullets? How is the copper fouling with these? I noticed these were pretty good priced for plinking, and I didnt want to go to cast bullets due to leading.

Hopefully one day I will be able to give helpful information back to yall.

Thanks in advance.

They shoot great. No more copper fouling than any other plated or jacketed bullet, which is negligible. I really like them. For .45 I really like the 230 Gr RN, the 200 Gr HP, and the 185 Gr SWC. The 185 Gr HBRN works well for low recoil revolver loads.

I've had good luck with Berry's 200 gr RSFP bullet over Unique.

Clays, Titegroup, AA5, AutoComp, WST. I've used all these in .45ACP with good to great results. can't help with .40.

WST orAA #2 for cheap, accurate light to medium plus loads with plated bullets. N320 if you want the best.

W-231 for lead is very hard to beat.

I use Berry's 230 gr RN as well. I have used all sorts of powders ranging from BE, Unique, W231, Clays, #2, WST, HS6, Titegroup, Trail Boss, power pistol, and Dots in assorted colors and all work good (some better than others) but I keep reaching for N320.

If you have a small local gun shop that sells any powder at all you might ask them to order what you need with their next batch. That's what I've done at several places and they will generally do it. Especially if you offer to pay in advance. The big outfits wont usually do it though.

If you really want to stick with W231, just use Hodgdons HP-38. It is the exact same powder with a different label. I called Hodgdons and ask them and that is what they told me.
