Mag springs, main springs should be replaced whenever reliability is suspect.

you didn't say which auto loader in particular, and for different models there are different times that things need to be changed. however since you listed no specific model, i will give my xd service model as an example. i replace recoil spring and striker spring every 3,000rds, is this needed not necessarily alot depends on how hot of loads you are shooting, but to keep it the same across the board i stick with 3000rds. the striker spring i have let go as long as 8000, however now i replace it when i do the recoil spring.

mag springs, in carry mags, i replace them every 6 months, in training magazines, i change them when they fail me at the range.

i replace them every 6 months
Here are my thoughts.
How do you know the new one isn't over-tempered and ready to break next week or something?

Mag springs are good until they stop feeding, with the slide over-running the ammo in the mag, or stop locking the slide open after the last shot.

Otherwise, your chances of the old tested spring not breaking or collapsing from improper tempering are probably better, or at least as good, then on a new unproven spring.

there are pros and cons to everything, this is the way i have done it and will continue to do so. my new mag sorings are tested when they are changed, i change them at the range use them until i am satisfied and then they become my new carry mags.
