I got my buck (only 7 points) at 2:30PM opening day my first year of hunting, also with a .308 (Remington 700 ADL). It's a darn good feeling. Eating it is almost as much fun. Congratulations.

Thanks. I didn't realize how big he was (211 pounds) until I found him dead in a thicket. It all happened in about 3 seconds....rushed my shot, but it ended up in my favor. He is at least 9 points, if not more. When he gets back from the taxidermist we'll see....

I guess out of state hunters can have good luck as well. Hope I get invited back next year after taking this one. That was Jeff's first buck as well, a nice 8-point. The pics don't do it justice. It is a real nice buck.

Congratulations! You did better than I did, that's for sure. I also got my first deer this week. It was a 70ish lb. button buck. Hell, I thought it was a doe when I shot it. Should be some good eatin though.
