Prices are all over the place so you will have to do some homework. Check the gun auctions and it will give you a feel for the market. Parts for the WALKER are not a problem as they are readily available from
http://www.vtigunparts.com/
I have done business with them and they are knowledgeble and good folks to deal with.

Thanks for the link.
Should I bother about replacing the nipples right away or just use the factory supplied nipples until they need replacement.
What is your favorite bullet mould?

Uh, if it ain't broke, don't fix it? I think you'll find Uberti's OEM nipples are adequate. They're not Tresos, but they'll do the job for a long time.

There's also whether the 1st, 2nd or 3rd type is desired and who has it in stock.

I bought mine at Dixie Gun Works. The price is right, shipping is fast, and they have all the parts for it.

I think your thinking Dragoon, not Walker. You must have a deep hidden desire to buy another Dragoon, right?
Cabela's has a great return policy and has a good street price for the Walker.

I believe that Colts never used the term Walker to describe any revolver in what he called the Dragoon series of revolvers. Granted what we consider the Walker revolver got Colts back on his feet financially but the revolver itself was short lived and redesigned within a year of it's introduction.

Thanks, I figured that someone would correct me if I was wrong.
I should have checked.
I really didn't like holding one with the square trigger guard so I'd rather have a 3rd model with the round one.
Would the Dragoon's round trigger guard be interchangable with the Walker's?

What we call the Dragoons were called the Improved Holster Pistol until the New Model Holster Pistol (1860 Army) came out; then the Dragoons were called the Old Model Holster Pistol. During their run, there was never any differentiation made between the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd models. Those designations were invented by 20th Century collectors.

Fingers is correct; Colt never used the term Dragoon.

Okay, the Walker has been ordered and on the way. :)
What nipple wrench do you recommend?
Ordered one of the old style wrenches so I had something to break down for cleaning. Is there something better out there?
Which bullet mould do you recommend?
Won't be able to shoot until I get some roundballs. I already have a casting furnace and misc tools.
Soon I'll be in the Walker Club too! LOL

I got the big crook neck wrench for my Dragoon. Works quite well. It's a copy of the one that was issued with the guns.
The nipples on mine were horribly, horribly small, and I had to replace them with Treso's.
"Model U.S. Mounted Rifles". I've seen Colt advertisements that just called it the "Army model". One ad says something like Colt Pistols were "Available in Army, Navy, and Pocket sizes" (for "Dragoon", 1851, and 1849).

I think "Army, Navy, and Pocket sizes" were more in refrence to .44, .36, and .31 caliber than particular models.

Unfortunately, no. About a year ago I ordered a replacement guard for my First Model Dragoon, and they sent me a Walker guard instead, which looks similar but does not fit correctly.
You *can* purchase a third model dragoon guard to fit your first and second model dragoons if you so desire. They all seem to be compatible (both my first and third models have round trigger guards now.
