After searching high and low, reading and asking questions, and seeing how it felt in my hands... I'm getting a GP-100 next week!

It's the 3 In. SS/FS/ full underlug model. It will be used as a car/ range/ HD gun. Went to/called various dealers in my area, looking for the best price.
Highest price quoted was $555.00 without tax and background check fee!
Got it at a low of $444.00 out the door, with tax and background check included! Just have to wait three days and for my dealer to get it in. Are'nt those prices weird?
He should have it by monday.
Oh happy day!
Just have to get to the range and test it out once I have her in my hands.
Oh yeah, have to buy a holster and a couple of speedloaders too.

:D

JimJD .... you - like so many - will I expect be well pleased with your choice. This has to be amongst the top popular .357 wheel guns .. leaving aside choices of tube length.

You may tho possibly also need to do quite a bit of dry fire .. to help it on the way to smoother trigger ...... or you may hit lucky and have a good one, out the box.

Enjoy!

I will be buying a GP100 in the near future, hopefully, and am still debating betweeen the 3" version like yours or the 4" variant. The 3" is really appealing. Good luck and let us know how you like it. Mike

Nice choice!

I got to shoot RON in PA's 3" blued GP-100 a few weeks ago and man, what a nice gun! Ruger did a superb job in designing the grip. IMO, it soaks up recoil better than any other DA revolver's. I was shooting full-bore handloads (125 grain Remmy JHP on top of Blue Dot) and while there was mucho blast, it didn't sting my hand at all. It was actually more comfortable to shoot than my S&W Model 28 which has Herrett's Shooting Stars on it.

I've swapped out grips a couple of times on my GP100 but I keep putting the originals back on. Haven't found anything better to this day.

I have found that you can improve the original grips though.

On the upper part of the left panel is the cutout in the grip made to accomodate a speed loader.

The shape of the cutout leaves a little protrusion or corner which was pretty hard on my thumb knuckle during extended shooting sessions.

I trim this off with an exacto knife, then sand the spot until smooth. Then I heat the rubber carefully in the affected spot with a cigarette lighter and rub it with an oily cloth to get back the original shiny finish on the rubber grip.

Go very easy on the heating part. If you don't get it hot enough you can try again. If you get it too hot, you ruined it.

I've done this to three grips so far and you can't even tell that it's done unless you know exactly what to look for.

The picture below shows the protrusion I'm talking about. I don't have a picture of one of my modified grips.

I compared the Ruger GP100 to the S&W 686. Liked the Ruger grips, but did not like the workmanship compared to the S&W. For me the Smith had a much better trigger feel as well. I bought the Smith. Costs more too. But, get what makes you happy. Otherwise, it sits on the shelf for ages. Or, until you trade it away. Just another opinion!

I have both the Ruger KGP141 and Smith 686, both in 4" barrels. I can't tell the difference in trigger pull and smoothness. Finish is a little better on the Smith, sights are slightly different (direction of screw rotation for windage is opposite of each other) and price advantage is to the Ruger. The bottom line is that you can't go wrong with either.
