I have located a 1858 Sharps breech loading rifle cal. .54. It was imported by Armsport. It is a sporting rifle with 28" octagon barrel, tang sight. I think I could get it for $550.
Anyone know how reliable these were. Good shooters? Who really made them? About when they were imported.
Any information would help in my decision making.
Thanks

Mine is the 1863 Sporting model, and is a gong ringer. Interestingly,I got it for $400.00 LNIB, because the former owner said it wouldn't fire.I tried it,he was right,it wouldn't fire.I removed the nipple, poured a little 3f in, and replaced the nipple, and tried again....kerPLOW! After inspecting and cleaning the rifle at the end of the day, I found residue and small pieces of what seemed to be a glass or hard plastic bead. It may have been put in there to make it non firing compliant for some european country,or it might have just been left over from some manufacturing process, but I have a friend who has the three banded Infantry model that had the same exact problem.
