Wiebo Ludwig's son denied firearms licence

Canadian Press

Grande Prairie, Alta. — A judge has ruled that allowing the son of convicted oil patch saboteur Wiebo Ludwig to own guns would pose too great a danger to the community.

The decision affecting Wiebo Ludwig Junior came down today in a Grande Prairie court where Judge Eldon Simpson upheld a firearms officer's decision denying the younger Mr. Ludwig a firearms licence.

Judge Simpson said there's a safety risk because of the attitude of the residents of Trickle Creek about using firearms against people.

During a firearms hearing in June, Mr. Ludwig Junior testified that, if necessary, he would use a gun against trespassers on the family's Trickle Creek farm northwest of Hythe .

That was a reference by the Crown to the shooting of Karman Willis

The 16-year-old girl was shot while joyriding with a group of teens at Trickle Creek in 1999.

No one has been charged in her death.

Outside of court, Mr. Ludwig Junior said he wasn't surprised by the decision.

Isn't a man's home his castle... never mind.:banghead:

Indeed.

A man's home is his castle, but this girl wasn't breaking into his home.

She was 'joyriding' (in this case, it means that she was with a group of friends in a pickup truck who decided to do a couple of 'donuts' in the field. It doesn't mean that they stole a car for a short ride like it normally does in the US), not burglarizing a home.

No one's life was in danger and simple tresspass on one's land does not automatically justify the use of deadly force. If it did, I'd be legally able to shoot half the students at the grade school next door.

Given the statement by Junior that he'd shoot trespassers, I can see exactly why he was denied his firearms license.

If I understand this correctly, it wasn't he that shot her, it was a separate incident.

No one knows who shot her, but his statement on shooting people for trespassing is what cost him his license.

He obviously doesn't subscribe to the 3S philosophy. "Shoot, Shovel, Shut Up".

BTW, there's a lot more to this story than the denial of a firearms permit.
Check out this story (http://www.cbc.ca/newsinreview/sept%2099/sour%20gas/intro.html) from the CBC.

BTW, are you still a DU member like it says in your sig? I managed to stay on there for a month before my firearms posts got me banned.
