I have a TC Contender with a 14" barrel and it's ported. I aquired 100 of the Hornady LE FTX bullets in 265 grains. These are intended for the .444 Marlin but I've read where people are loading them for the .44. What I keep running into is all the data I find are for Super Redhawks and S&W's. I can shove a bullet with an OAL of 2.0 + inches in my chamber with clearance. This hangs out of the casing a ridiculous amount but could be done, I guess.
What I'm wondering is:
What can I load safely and get some good power out of this bullet for deer?
If I seat the bullet to make the OAL 1.910 and that gives me 1.456 cubic centimeters of volume available, what powder and charge would be best?
I noticed all the pics I've seen of this bullet, the bullet has two rings around it. The cannelure? Two maybe? Is the one closest to the bottom a gascheck? Anyway, my bullets only have the one ring toward the tip.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
