I was watching this tonight and I noticed the rifles they were using were ejecting shells. Does any one know what they are firing or if the whole thing is staged? The rifles look like ar-15's firing non-lethal ammo. Local war games would be much cooler firing non-lethal ammo instead of paintball.

They are using simunition (http://www.simunition.com/index_en.php).
Real firearms modified to shoot marking rounds.
The 5.56x45mm FX Simunition round travels at 650FPS and has a 200meter range.

The company that makes it has a strict no civilian sales policy.
Simunition conversion kit for a M4 Carbine = $675.
1000 rounds of 5.56x45mm FX simuntion ammo = $730.

If you don't want to use paintball, use airsoft.
