I hear people telling how SIGs are ugly yet they are my favorite pistol and they are the best looking "tactical" pistol IMO.

Cause they are? Nah just kidding but I do think some are ugly and some are nice. I personally like the p220 and p238. Don't care much for the p2022 though.

I think the regular Sigs are nice. Those with beavertail, rails, and anything "tactical" are just plain hideous.

Same reason Glocks are ugly...they're square and glocky...I mean, blocky. :D

XDs and M&Ps are ugly, too. Must be something about plastic.

But Iím sure theyíre all fine pistols otherwise if you donít care what they look like.

For me glocks are ugly but i find them the best value as well. Sigs are nice looking pistols for me.

They aren't ugly!

They are too fat to grip comfortably (the famous "shooting potato"), sit too high in the hand, and have a useless DA/SA trigger, oh and their mags split up the back.

But they aren't ugly!

IMO Sigs are beautiful looking guns. I am a Glock guy but I do like the Sigs as well. Just not worth the extra $ IMO. Now Steyr makes an ugly pistol and so does Ruger with the SR9.

That 380 is definitely the nicest looking Sig.

I personally don't think Sigs are ugly ... I think they have a smooth look and good design but I will admit that I do LOVE the 1911s over everything else and that is why my Kimber is my baby!

However, I do have to agree withblkbrd666 and say that Glocks are ugly. They may have GREAT functionality and durability and may cost less than a 1911 but from an aesthetic point of view I find them unattractive!

My newest handgun is the Sig P250 ... think it is a clean looking little gun!

Actually, almost no gun is ugly...notice I said "almost". You know, maybe guns are like women...you marry the one you truly love whether she's pretty or not. If you really love her, she's probably pretty...to you.

I don't see how anyone could see SIGs as ugly ... especially after looking at Ken Lunde's photos (http://lundestudio.com/sigs.html) of them.

Hell, even my holster-worn 232 has some class to it.

Back in the day Browning imported a semi auto pistol that they dubbed the Browning BDA and it was their only 45 acp. It was in fact the sig 220 with the Browning name on it. Then I thought it was ugly but since it was Browning I figured it had to be a fine auto pistol. I found out years later it was the sig and of course by then it wasn't being imported with the Browning name anymore. Some how the look of the 220 kinda grew on me and I got one back in about 1995 or 96. Still love it's looks but especially love the way it shoots anything and I mean anything accurately.

What is pretty to some is ugly to others. I like the classic look of a 1911, Browning Hi Power, Beretta 92f, CZ75B and the third generation Smith and Wessons like the 5906. But also would like to get a Sig 226, 228 and 229. Their reputation is one of the best. I am finally coming to grips with the Glock and other "plastic pistols" Glocks are one of the most reliable pistols and I like the fact their easy to take apart and clean. But to me they are blocker and do not have the classic style like a 1911 or Hi Power. But neither does the Sig either. But I would not turn down a change at a good deal on either.

Good luck,

Some of us big, ugly guys with potato-fisted big hands like those big ol' Sig grips. I sure like my spud guns. And I suspect that they are only ugly if you are looking at one being pointed at you -- in which case, there is probably not anything much uglier :)

As a matter of fact, in retrospect, I wish I had purchased the P226 rather than the P225 in 9 mm. The P220 45 Auto and P229 Gen II SAS 40 SW fit just right -- kind of like a Browning HiPower with the stacked 15-round magazine.

PS: the magazine on the P 229 isn't split up the back, for whatever difference that makes.

No such thing as a 'tactical' anything. It's a marketing term only.
Sigs are squareish and are made for function. They don't have the smooth rounded edges of a Colt Government Model or a BHP. Mind you, how a pistol looks isn't anywhere near as important as how reliable it is.
"...232..." PPK lines. Also smooth and classic.

When Sigs were first marketed in this country as "Brownings" they were horrible ugly blocky unlovely guns as compared the the smooth blue steel and wood of the current handguns of the day. The Sigs didn't change, but the times did. One of my famous quotes, "A plastic gun, hell will freeze over first!". Now I have eleven of them.

The Sig models with extra attention to aesthetics (210, 232, 239) are attractive, but the rest are just functional. A lot of purely functional guns are considered ugly by some, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

It's all fashion and personal taste, just like which car is ugly or not!

I don't like some of their designs, but plenty of others look great. Of course, I also generally prefer the full length stock of milsurp rifles to hunting rifles, so some may say my tastes are strange. (the same has been said of my taste in cars, go figure...)

Business guns don't have too be pretty; they just have too be reliable~! ;):D

that is why I prefer the .45 ACP P220A, and the 9m/m P228;
both are West German made and assembled, without rails~! :)

I think they are very nice to look at and even nicer to shoot. I think mean looking guns, all business guns, are very attractive. I dislike chrome, fancy wood, etching, etc. Give me accurate, reliable, and industrial looking. AR's, Sigs, HKs, M&Ps are all beautiful to me. Glocks just look, well, even I think they're ugly. It's all individual taste. I for one realize that just because I think something is attractive only makes that true for me. Because I think a Glock is unnattractive doesn't make it so nor does it demean the persons opinion who does. We can agree to disagree and I 'll be happy for you and your beautiful Glock.

Possibly, an A-10 warthog effect:

Many say they are ugly, but most agree they are beautiful when it comes to doing the job both, for ground units in need and, being over-built, always bring their pilots home, one way or another.

I completed a defensive pistol class 6 years ago with a borrowed and well used SIG 2340. Other than some pretty benign ccw "training" it was the first time I have done what I would call serious shooting. It ran flawlessly, the only ugly on it was the RH decocker..... but being a lefty I'm a little biased.

For my money, when gun maker's began moving away from high polished blue steel, color-cased hardening, well figured walnut, top quality nickel finishes, and so forth the entire "looks" concept went in the tank as far as guns are concerned...but I don't think that is surprising, given that many other products that used to be wood, steel, etc are now made of synthetics.

I think Sig's look business-like, and I have been able to comfortably and accurately shoot any Sig I have tried; which makes me think they look great

Ok, we won't call them ugly, how about inelegant? Big blocky looking slides and triigerguards just don't do it for me.

From Websters: lacking in refinement, grace, or good taste

But they are very reliable and well made guns, they just do not hold up to a BHP in the looks department.

I value function over form in many things. For instance certain cars, while ugly, gain visual appeal when you know what they can do. An example would be the Buick Grand National.

This picture is one of the reasons I find the Glock more appealing to look at than the SIG....this is a visual representation of better function.

why do people consider them ugly?

Because those people have seen 1911's, Hi-Powers, SAA's, S&W Hand Ejectors, Walthers, and other nicely and elegantly designed guns. It doesn't mean the Sig is a bad gun - it just happens to be ugly compared to many others.

But they sure aren't as ugly as Glocks! ;)

Ok, we won't call them ugly, how about inelegant?

Good compromise and the way to say it in polite company. But it's still a euphemism. ;)
