Injustice in Maine!

KeepAndBearArms.com -- There may be a Ruby Ridge/Waco type situation brewing up in Maine. Will it be a standoff followed by a bloodbath?

There is a woman in Maine doing her best to keep her home. Some statist thugs at City Hall have decided she shouldn't live there anymore. With a few friends (about a dozen) who are standing by her side, Dottie LaFortune is saying “NO” to a corrupt city government that refuses to follow Maine state law and grant her a jury trial. The city fathers have instead found it easier to brand her as a crank and use administrative fiat in an attempt to deprive this woman of her Home. Dottie is not a crank. She knows that even if heard in court she may not win. She has told me, the Police Chief, and others that if she loses in court she will leave her home even though she still believes her cause is just. All she has wanted is for her case to be heard in court.

The details of this contention between Dottie and those Civil Serpents will follow with appropriate links. To be fair, much of it will be familiar to those of you who have read James Bovard, Vin Suprynowicz, or the pages in which you are now reading this. It is about property rights and a woman who will not roll over for the State.

Having seen her mother evicted (and die shortly thereafter) in similar shenanigans, Dottie will not go quietly. She has sworn that she will fight... and I believe her. I honor her courage.

If she does fight she may do well. Dottie has food and supplies laid up. She will be able to hold out... for a while. Will we then see her burned out of her home?

As of 1330hrs EST on Wednesday the 12th of November Dot was served with a 48-hour notice to ‘vacate’ her home. She says she will not comply. Anytime after noon on this Friday -- today -- Biddeford, Maine may become a part of history - for good or ill.

This is not a ‘Militia’ alert - Nor a call to Arms.

There are no Leaders.

Each one of you must decide for yourself what to do and how to do it.

I wish, sometimes, that is were possible to go back in time and make a difference at Ruby Ridge or Waco. I now have 20/20 hindsight and my ‘vision’ haunts me with over a Hundred Americans dead. We didn't know what was going on then. Well, we Know now.

BREAKING NEWS ON THIS ISSUE:

0220HRS 14NOV2003

I have spoken with Dottie and Phil (her Private Detective) a few hours ago and they were hopeful about a peaceful resolution of her situation.

The Police Chief of Biddeford has personally assured Dottie and Phil that he will not attempt to evict her until he can determine some more of the details of her case (and the fact that she has a City issued tax receipt from May 2003 for the house the city sold to someone else in 2002 seemed to give him pause).

It really comes down to this critical question: will someone at City Hall or the State House show some common sense?

Note: on the above links Floyd Shackelford is listed as the coordinator of the Mutual Defense Pact Militia (which was instrumental in getting this information out and coordinating communications).

Do NOT contact Floyd.

Due to personal circumstances Floyd has had to give up his coordinating activities. He is deserving of our gratitude and did great work for the (unfortunately) short time he helped out. I am sure that the ‘Stanleys’ will soon announce a new coordinator.

As an aside, the ‘Lame-stream’ media is also seeming to show an interest. Though they mostly seem interested in a potential “Bloodbath” rather than the injustice of Dottie's plight. Perhaps the media attention will keep the City Fathers on the straight and narrow.

So did she or didn't she pay taxes? It sounds like she didn't pay her taxes, and the house was sold at auction. When she found out it was sold, she tried to pay the taxes (or maybe did pay but was to late by a year). The owner of the house wants what is his, and she refused to leave. He had her evicted, but the sheriff doesn't want to do his job, and folks from Alabama are going to go to Maine to defend her? Does anyone have more information I can read? Her website (the forum) doesn't provide any information I could see regarding this, and I think some information is missing.

"Last week, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to issue an emergency stay that would have delayed her eviction.

In October, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled Lafortune no longer owns the property, which was seized by the city for non-payment of taxes and auctioned in May 2002 to Portland resident Tim Q. Ly for $80,000."

Yawn.

Another deadbeat who won't pay their taxes. A lot of the ones around here seem to end up on city council.

The original release on Stanley's website has been removed. Here's a cached version from google: http://216.239.39.104/search?q=cache:TgAbWkVOlhQJ:stanley2002.org/scoop/111103special.txt+111103special.txt&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
Sharpshooters should take up positions on top of Ledgewood Apartments and, if unoccupied by school personnel, Saint James School. Be aware that hostile forces will most likely already occupy these high positions and you will be required to render them ineffective.

So this lady doesn't pay her taxes and gets her home sold out from under her as provided for by law. Now this Stanley guy is calling out his thugs to start shooting cops?!?!
:what:

So much for reaching out to fence-sitters on the RKBA issue. :barf:

This is the kind of garbage that makes me embarassed to be affiliated with KABA.com. :fire:

Rick Stanley. Sometime political candidate, all-around gadfly. . . . but he also seems to be itching for a shootout with the police and, if he can manage it, the army.

Not long ago he took up the cause of some guy who, after acquiring zoning permits for one temporary structure, threw several trailers and school modulars onto a small patch of land, refused to deal with law enforcement, and started building earthworks for a shootout. Stanley was supposedly going to take 500 militia members and shoot it out with the sheriff, or something like that.
(Good luck with that one. You can't get 100 gun owners to show up at a restaurant to drink beer. It's been tried here, after Anheiser-Busch helped pass Missouri CCW.)

On the one hand, the guy's a nut. On the other, I can see where he's coming from. He tried to go through the courts, and his reward was to be forbidden by the judge in his case to mention the Constitution! (neither the federal nor the state.) That would make anyone wonder what kind of recourse he has left.

"...started building earthworks for a shootout."

Sounds like he needs meds, not recourse.

Stanley was supposedly going to take 500 militia members and shoot it out with the sheriff, or something like that.

A surprisingly large amount of them did turn up though, and a larger one was on the way when the sheriff just decided to avoid encounte.

Crazy people have lots of luck.

However, I still don't understand why Shamaya is giving him bandwidth.

I've followed this for a bit, and here's what I can add.

First, Rick Stanley hasn't (to the best of my knowledge) said anything about the situation with Dottie. This was all handled through Floyd Shackelford who took up coordination of the Mutual Defense Pact (MDP) when Rick Stanley was arrested.

Now, having only reall heard Dottie's version of the story I couldn't tell you exactly why her property is being seized. It has something to do with taxes and a bank forclosure. Trouble started brewing in 1984 I guess when some payments were missed... that was ironed out it seems and in '91 she divorced, the city had a little SNAFU with tax records, missed payments, taxes, who knows what. The house was sold in an auction sometime later (1997 I think -- it wasn't immediate)... and in the 2000's the tax records have just been all gooofed up.

I have no idea who actually owns the house. Nobody has made that clear yet... and I would assume that if the bank loan was paid in full that information would have been brought out right up front. Lacking that this looks more like a foreclosure -AND- a tax issue.

Did anybody here hear about this Floyd Shackelford before? Inquiring minds want to know?

From the AP WIRE Today's stories

Militia is a no-show as Biddeford woman awaits eviction (http://news.mainetoday.com/apwire/D7UQJPA00-317.shtml)

BIDDEFORD, Maine — More than 100 people gathered Friday to watch the scheduled seizure of the home of a woman who owes the city $27,000 in back taxes. But the deadline passed with no police action.

But the deadline passed with no police action

Crazy Ivan tactics. These coppers didn't want to risk a shootout over
27,000 bucks, so they avoided conflict. Stanley and his friend are chalking up what they perceive as victories - and that means they'll keep at it until they'll run into people who wouldn't care to shoot to kill over a tax violation. Than it will turn out VERY ugly.

Property taxes are illegal. Stanley and his band of brothers may seem off the wall, but guess what? So are many others who are getting fed up with tyranny. They want a fight. As did the colonials leading up to the revolution...get me?

Say what you want about Stanley, but extremism in liberty is no vice. And what he is doing is something that should have been done YEARS AGO! Taking a stand.

Shoot, if we all got involved, we could restore government?

Chris Rhines

I'm all about getting involved with tax protests, but I wouldn't have anything to do with one that Stanley is associated with. He's hankering for a shootout with the cops, and I'd prefer not to be around when he gets it.

Showing up with signs, banners, and video cameras is much more useful than running off at the mouth about rendering the po-lice ineffective.
