I have read several post where people said S&W includes Walther P99's in their lifetime warranty.

Fact or Fiction?

Fact.
Back when I had a Walther P22 (POS gun) I called S&W on it and was told that "Walthers" are covered just like any other S&W firearm since they import them, they stand behind them. I would call S&W for confirmation, but that's what I was told.

S&W is the current US importer of Walther handguns and thus responsible for any warranty issues with them.

JMOfartO:

I believe I am correct in stating that the Walthers imported by S&W FOR Walther are NOT covered by the standard S&W Lifetime Warranty..

Smith & Wesson DOES do the free one year warranty work on these pistols, but does NOT (as I understand it) extend that warranty beyond the one year advertised by the factory, and as outlined in the Walther P99 owners manual.

I "had" a P99AS, P99c/AS and a PPS.. All purchased new and imported by S&W for Walther.. The only one of the three that had problems was the PPS, and S&W eventually replaced the PPS with an entirely new pistol. (All within the one year warranty period).

IF you want a Walther P99 with a lifetime warranty then get the SW99.. (NOT the SW990).

The SW99 is the very same pistol as the P99 with the exception the slide and barrel are American made.. Other than for the slide and barrel, it's all German made, Walther P99...

My buddy has an SW99 and he and shot my Walther and his SW99 "head to head" many times and could discern NO difference in the way they shoot, functioned, or accuracy.

I will say that I got the impression when dealing with S&W on my Walther PPS that those folks were not really too excited about fixing broken Walthers. Not saying they wouldn't do it, just that I got the feeling it wasn't a high priority.

When I needed warranty repair on one of my 3rd Gen Smiths they bent over backwards giving me great customer service..

I could be wrong.

Best Wishs,

Jesse
