Gone to the shows and have checked online, but I was looking for THR opinions.

Looking at a Model 29-2 @ about 90-95% (action is incredible). 6" blued, original grips in fantastic condition.

Guy wants $700, but like any of us, I want it for less. Any thoughts on recent sales you've seen, or opinions on this price, please post.

650.00 to 700.00 seems to be what they are bringing around this area. I have a special order 5" magnaported special they put out in 1975, that I would not take less than that for.

I concur ...........the days of 29-2's for around 5 bills seemed to have passed us by. As a matter of fact I watched a S&W 19-2 that was going for around $759 last night with 19 min.'s left in the auction. Hard to fiqure the prices some are commanding right now ............

If you can get it for a little less, great, but I don't think you are overpaying at $700.

Especially, if there is no shipping and no tax.

i have a 29-2 with a 6.5 inch barrle made in 1972 or 1973,serial number N63,0xx in the wood box and i could sell it for 700.00 any day of the week, eastbank.

3 years ago, I bought a 29-2 off an older fellow, who said he would rather see it being enjoyed by someone young than sit and collect dust.

Original box, tools, tray, grips, came with RCBS reloading dies, and about 350 leads. And a box he custom built with styrofoam inlays that held 200 rounds.

$300.

I feel awful now. At the time, we checked a gun book at a local shop and it said good condition they were worth that much.

Be sure to do a thorough check out. Check especially for step-off of the hammer. If it does it, set aside $100 at least to replace the hammer and trigger. Whenever the action is "incredible" you need to do just a little more diligence to make sure it's not had the sears altered/filed upon.

Cock the hammer to SA. Grab it with two fingers and wiggle it around a bit. With your finger off the trigger, try to push the hammer forward with your thumb and firm pressure. Make sure the hammer will not release and fall forward ("step off").

If this happens, this is a sign of a poorly fit action (rarely) or one that has had its mating surfaces over-worked (usually). Replacing the hammer/trigger will likely be necessary to make the gun safe. Springs and mainspring screws are easy and cheap to replace if altered; this is more difficult and expensive. You should check for it with any inspection, but especially if the trigger feels unusually smoother than other comparable S&W's.

There is an excellent sticky above about inspecting and S&W - I think this should be covered in there similar to what I described. Read that if you haven't and you'll feel much more confident about buying. I hope it checks out nicely for you.

If you really have a desire, I have a NIB model 29-2 nickle with a 6.5 inch bbl that can be yours for 850 plus shipping. You can shoot a brand new older gun and have a wood box to store stuff in to boot.

I have not seen an older S&W N-frame for cheap anywhere in my region in a while. I picked up a decent 6" pre-28, five screw last week for a pretty good price but it has a littlr wobble in the ejector rod and wants to bind now and then. It's gonna be a holster gun.

3.5 or 4 inch guns are nowhere to be seen.
